'65 vs. '66

I've read quite a few posts regarding many things and I want to understand everything I can about my truck before I go to tinkering TOO much.

Other than suspension what are the main differences between my F250 and an F100? I want to be able to know what parts can interchange and what parts cannot.

Also, I saw some pics of sllt96xlt's interior. I like the painted dash. My truck has a pad with ONE crack. If I were to pull the pad off should it be as simple as cleaning it up and shooting it with some paint?

You don't need to paint the dash...it's already painted...from the factory.

You like the painted dash? There was a padded dash on on sllt96xlt's truck, it's been removed. That's why those horizontal mouldings are there ...to retain the lower portion of the padded dash.

Those mouldings were only installed on the dash for that reason.

No padded dash originally = no mouldings.

Now you know what's under your padded dash, all the dashes were painted, the padded dashes (if so equipped) were added later on the assembly line.

I thought 1/2 and 3/4 ton I Beams were different since the 3/4 tons have a bigger king pin...

I need to know...????

ALso, what would be the difference in a truck with a straight metal dash and one with a pad? Meaning, would a pad denote custom cab? Do I need to get the warranty number for ya'll to decode?

When removing the dash pad, you want to use a putty knife. Have a couple on hand 2" and a 4" it's easier. Some of the pads are glued down pretty good, especially around heater vent holes and speaker holes. If your saving the pad take windshield out. Either way take your time taking pad off, try not to scrape dash. Once pad is removed, you'll have a lot of glue to clean up not sure what would work best for removal of glue.

I can't tell you a definitive answer, but my '64 Custom Cab doesn't have a pad, nor does it look like it used to have one or one was removed...

of course i do not know what mine looked like during it's whole life. it definately looks like it never had a dask pad but ND says the molding is there for it and i do believe him. i like the way my truck looks now so i do not plan to add one even if it came with one. next time i'm at my truck i plan to take the seat covers off and look at what is underneath.

Glue removal, also bumper stickers, 3M double sided tape, etc.

ACRYSOL (made by Kent Industries), available at automotive paint supply stores.

Use a plastic putty knife...less chance in scratching the dash.

1965/71 F250 = front axle parts list 30.2C or D: C6TZ-3006-C & C6TZ-3007-C .. R/L I-Beam / C5TZ-3111-C .. K/P Kit (1965) / C8TZ-3111-A .. K/P Kit (1966/71)

Any more questions?

1965/71 F100's use different spindles than F250's do, but the king pins are same-o same-o.

Custom Cabs (1965/66) came with padded dashes as standard equiptment.

Padded dashes were optional on (1965/66) Standard Cabs.

There's nothing in the Warranty Number (VIN) that tells whether the truck is a Standard or Custom Cab, or has the Ranger Package.

The ONLY way to know if the truck (originally) was a Standard or Custom Cab or had the Ranger Package is by the BODY CODE.

If the first digit of the Body Code is a number, it's a Standard Cab.

If the first digit of the Body Code is a letter, it's a Custom Cab.

Ranger Package: The first digit of the Body Code is a letter. Rangers used 3 specific letters (1965: F, G, H / 1966: T, U, V) not shared by Custom Cabs.
