Trans advice for a 94 7.3 f 350 cube van

Running a 94 f 350 7.3 cube van and a trans seal is gone . Happened last Oct and I used the Lucas trans fluid and it held until this week . Now I need a e4od trans and the more questions I ask the more confused I am . I have found a 21 k rebuilt out of a 94 7.3 supercab half way from me across Canada. Fellow at the salvage yard ran my present trans id numbers and said I have the wrong tranny in now and he has the right one to fit.

One problem I have is the salvage yard says the F 3up-ea tag off mine says it is for a 93. The tag on his rebuilt trans is F4up (F) A if I recall correctly.

Question I have is there a big difference in these trans and will the 4up work in replace of the 3up?. Talked to a trans tech here and he said I have to make sure to buy a 94 or lower and it will work with present solinoid pack.

Called Ford down here and was told it is the difference in the gear ratio and I should replace the exact one the truck calls for. Any help on this is very appreciated as I want to be sure before I have a trans shipped across Canada. Any other info I am missing I will post if needed asap.

Dumped two jugs of Lucus in today for a "another " quick fix and haven't had the nerve to turn it over until Friday am. Sorry long winded here but just really confused on which tranny is the right one. Thanks for any help that is offered. Phil

ps this are the #'s of the present in truck e4od

ford trans tech is starting off with a positive reputation.
i dont remember tag #s , if it is from a diesel and it is a 94 or earlier it will work just fine
even though yours is a 94 it could be an early build truck utilizing the last of the 93 model transmissions

PLC7.3 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Personally...... I would..... if the trans is working good you have, just get the seal changed. My reasoning is: purchase price of western trans, plus shipping would most likely be way more than you need to spend "right now". I would not buy from a salvage yard unless I was close enough to carry it back on my shoulder. Save the money and buy a rebuilt with a warranty........ I would recommend a Ford rebuilt.

I'm gone for the day and do not have time to research your numbers till monday.

Thanks for replies . Present tranny is on it's last legs I fear and will look to buy this rebiuld for $900. Cost of shipping is only $ 95. from Ontario to Halifax so price seems good for a 21k rebuilt . Talked to a major after market seller down here and was told salvage yard is reputable and they will also warranty for 90 days , tc included with trans also.

PLC7 , if you could chech those numbers and post or pm it would be very appreciated . Seems I only take from this forum instead of give but my knowledge is very limited at best. great weekend , thanks again .

Just need a piece of mind before ordering this tranny. After reading many pages here and from a reply I gather that any e4od from a 94 7.3 will work on my 94 7.3 ? have to be sure it is out of a pre powerstroke. Anything else i should ask before having it shipped ? Thanks , Phil...

Would like to thank PLC7.3 for providing me with the info I needed on said transmission. Through him I have learned the day, month , year and model of my trans from the trans tag. I have also learned the 8th character in the VIN # points to the type of engine in truck Re; I = 6.9

M = 7.3 IDI NA 1988 - 1994

C =7.3 IDI factory turbo ,1993

K = 7.3 factory turbo , 1994

F = 7.3 DI turbo ,1994 1/2 and up (powerstroke)

Both the id's I needed check out to the M and am having shipped today. Will post back reply and thanks again for the great info I received off this forum , second to none for Ford trucks on the internet. Phil
