New comer via 171/174 lean condition

Hi, my name is Bob and I'm from Baltimore, MD. I have owned a 97 Ranger 4.0 for 3 years (with 90K on it now, purchased it with 70K) and it's a great truck except for the 171/174 lean problem.

I was looking for answers to solve a reocurring and dreaded 171/174 lean check engine light problem (and a small coolant leak) have spent over $1200 in the last 2 years taking my truck to two different mechanic's shops and the light is still on.

I started searching the internet to educate myself on emissions controls and I found this site which has given me much information and I took on fixing the problem myself. I was able to get the light out for about 2 days, just enough
to pass my last emissions test and have come to the conclusion I need to replace the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, have all the good info from this site and I am taking on the job myself.

Fantastic!

If you have any trouble or questions with that, post in the Ranger forum or the one for it's engine: 2.6, 2.8, 2.9, 4.0 and SOHC 4.0 V6 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

I know you can do it!
