79 Shortbed 1/4 panel replacement

There are quarter panels for long bed replacement but I have not found them for shortbeds. Can you cut a section out of the front of the long bed panel and make it fit? I would prefer to do the whole bed side rather than trying to patch the rust over the wheel wells. Has anyone done this before? Any help would be appreciated.
