Question speedo gone wacko

After leaving work the other day I noticed my speedometer wasn't working, with the weather we've been having here in Missouri lately I've had to plow thru heavy mud to get in and out of the right-of-way. Since then I've noticed the speedo starts working about 40-45 mph, then dies again when I slow down to 40-45. Also my "check engine soon" and ABS lights came on the same day. Don't know if they're all due to the mud I've been plowing thru, gonna wash it today and climb under it. Any suggestions on where to look first?

It's the VSS - the speed sensor on top of the rear end. It's pretty cheap and easy to change.
