richfaa is starting off with a positive reputation.
it means that in a engine operating normally without any injectors leaking fuel, the reason the oil level increases is due to the extra soot that is being created in the engine due to the regen process.

Hummm..I thought the soot was burnt off during the regen process in the DPF. My Truck is going in for the seat recall..I will run that by the diesel guys.

the soot is burnt off in the exhaust system. the extra soot in the oil comes from when the truck "runs rich" during a regen process. its like back in the carb days, when the carb would run real rich and get fuel in the oil. same concept here.

`But how would the extra soot account for the 5% fuel dilution???

Unless there is some new technology, the fuel gets to the cylinder thru the injector, either gets burned or stickes to cylinder walls, and drips into oil.

Maybe someday we will have 2 cycle diesels and then we don't need a crank case filled with oil!

soot is not fuel. the 5% will be in regards to what rmossso is referring to. the soot is being filtered out to ford specs IF a racor/ford filter is being used. there is nothing to worry about within soot as long as the truck gets serviced like it should be with what it should have.
