96 7.3 shuts down one bank?

I got a call from a friend of mine today, wanted me to check out his truck, he thought he might have a sticking injector or something along that line, had a miss and no power, he had been able to make it go away by holding it on the mat, then it'd be fine for a week or maybe a couple days, but, yesterday it started doing it and wouldn't clear up.

I'm a bit rusty with 7.3's(been 4 years since I've had one,) so here's what I did.
We fired the truck up, was cold, hadn't run in a day, ran fine for about 5 minutes, no CEL, and no codes. After about 5 minutes of running, the entire pass side dropped out(verified by unplugging the VC connectors.) The CEL did come on, but, it never did throw any codes.
I checked the harness and all the connectors, found nothing out of order. I didn't have my meter with me, so I didn't check for signal to the injectors or test any sensors.
He has another 96 truck(5 speed though) so, I tried swapping the IDM for a known good one, no change.
Where should I go from here?

you said you checked the wiring? does that mean you also checked under the valve covers? if you have a cel then you have codes. get it to do it again, when the light comes on scan for codes with the truck still running, ignore the commands to turn the key off, it will still read them.

Use the OHM meter to test the wiring like stated here

I didn't check the UVC harnesses, that is on the to do list though. I don't see one plug affecting the entire bank, it's not like the later trucks with everything on one plug(my old one was a 00.) I tried pulling each plug individually, made no difference, it did pick up the second bank for about 2 seconds once after it started to miss, but, that was it. I'll ohm out the injectors for good measure tomorrow, but, the fact that it's the whole bank that's shutting down, I have a feeling it's something more serious than the UVC harness.

Like I said, the CEL came on, but, no codes, this is with the truck running and shut down.

IDM goes into protect (limp) mode...

The IDM see's a problem more than likely on the high side wiring and goes into survival mode and shuts down that banks. Happens often.
