WOW!! What great news!! If they go ahead and suspend the gas tax, instead of $4.00 a gallon, we'll only have to pay $3.76 a gallon. With all the extra money that'll give me at every fill-up, I can start driving 5 days a week in my truck instead of 2-3 days a week.

Oh what bountiful times we can expect.

Problem I see with that.... we're paying 45 cents a gallon here in taxes, and most of that is state tax. I think only 10 or 15 cents of it is federal tax.

Of course I'm kinda peeved...the amount of money this state must be making off gas taxes, and the roads still suck!

With many private lenders getting out of the student loan business and rates going up from those that remain....we are going to wind up with a college degreed employment base deficiency. Then 10 years from now we will all be sitting here bitching about how people of foreign origin are stealing our professional job opportunities. The student loan issue does need to be addressed and addressed sooner as opposed to later.

As far as the gas tax holiday...McCain is not the first to propose it. If nothing else, it would provide a brief respite and at least a short feel good period. Which everyone could use. Now, every time some folks fill up (if they can afford it) they drive away pissed off.

I wonder if the pissed off thing is over the price they're having to pay, or over how many individual transactions they had to utilize to actually FILL the tank. With some stations still stuck on this $50 cutoff stupidity, I can't imagine ANY car that will fill with only one transaction at $4 a gallon.

18.4 cents per gallon for gasoline.
24.4 cents for diesel.

That's about how much the price of each has increased here in the last 2 weeks.

I'm undecided as to who to vote for or even if it is worth voting at all for President. But at least McCain has come up with an idea that IMO means something. All I hear today is we need change but NO concrete ideas of what to do. I want to hear solid ideas of what they are going to do to make this change.

I don't see where the tax holiday will have any real effect except for maybe the truckers. .18 savings isn't going to make people decide to take vacations and will make a minimal savings on everyday use. The other side of the coin is how do you make up for the lost revenue? To me the whole idea is just short term vote pandering.

It won't happen. But pandering or no pandering, I would be happy to pay less for fuel.
