motor swap help

im hoping someone can give me some guidence....im puting a "66" 240 to a "65" c-4 trans i guess this trans was for a "65" with a 200 motor...my problem starts when i had the c-4 rebuilt to bolt up to my 170 motor the bell housing for the 170 is smaller that the 240....i will need a bell housing and flywheel and torque converter...questions are..what torque converter....i have to check the trans splines...i think its a 28...what flywheel and what bell housing....i was told by the guy i got the 240 from that any 302 or 351w should work.....

i dont want to scrap the idea of putting the bigger motor in ......since i am making it an automatic....it has a 3 speed in it now...i figure making it auto i will need the extra power....

thanks......

First off welcome to FTE. Now what are we working on. You can use the bellhousing from any 289-351 the only exceptions are the early 5 hole 260/289 and the 351M. Flex plate and torque converter should be available at a parts house or tranny shop near you. You will also need a starter.

Exactly. Early 65 V-8's used a 5 bolt bellhousing. Later 65 V-8's went to the 6 bolt bellhousing.

5 Bolt bellhousings are rare, but not impossible to find (just expensive).
