My mud racing 400 build, is done . ..

well kinda, still need a water pump, crank pulley and tall valve covers to clear the rockers but here you go:

starting at the block, the block has been decked and and a .030 overbore, everything was aligned honed and SPS bolts on the bottom end, the rotating assembly has been fully balanced, the pistons are a set of cleveland flattops, zerodeck, the rods were bushed and the pistons use a floating pin and not pressed, and reliefs wer cut into the pistons to clear the valves, going up into the heads we have a set of closed chamber 4v heads, they have a fulll port and polish on both the intake and exhaust, SS valve, dual valve sprign setup good for 140lbs of seat pressure, roller rockers, screw in studs and guide plates with custom length hardened pushrods, cam is onlly a comp cams 275 deh, and we guestimate (and some dyno sims.) about 450hp and about 500ftlbs around 6-6500rpm, should rev to nearly 7, but a rev limiter will keep it to no higher than 6500, intake is a rosch B351 ported for cleveland heads, price intake spacers and a holley 750dp with a few mods to free up some flow.

Hey mustang another thing, those flat tops with 3cc or 4cc of velvereliefs and 0 decked with closed chambers I estimated a scr of 12:1 , thats too much unless race fuel will be used, Are they dished?
for your built I estimated :
HP 495@6000
TQ 503@4500

Beautiful build! Congrats so far! Can't wait to do my 400 that well. How much was taken from the block when it was decked? A simple truing or a specific amount? Just curious for this engine.

race fuel only in that beast and i'm not sure on the valve reliefs as there were custom cut by the machinest to fit the heads, and we didn't bother to cc' anything either do to lack of time, but i calculated the cr out to 11.5ish without the valve reliefs, so probably 11:1 sounds close, but it could be higher, i will do a compression check before we fire it up so we can get a baseline for future reference., as far as the mains, well the block was aready preped by the time i found out about the 4bolt mains, yeah i could've added them in but i didn't think i'd have the extra cash avaible at the end for the extra cost.

There's probably going to be no dyno time just due to dyno avaiblility, and i have very little time myself to do it as well, but i'm hoping i can sneak it on a chassis dyno sometime this summer at one of the car shows that comes through lethbridge alberta. The block was taken down as much as one can safely take it down, i wanna say .030, but i can't say for sure cause i don't have the sheet in front of me.

That manifold gives me a woody! I'd expect close to 500hp if that thing holds together, although I'm not familiar with the cam specs.

the motor is going into my mud bogger, no 1/4 mile strips around my parts. but yeah the cam is rather mild so i'm only expecting mid to low 400's, but still i could be completely wrong.

If that engine had an Edelbrock Performer 351M/400 manifold and a balancer painted black it would look exactly like the 400 that I built for my 1972 Gran Torino Sport many years ago. That's a nice looking engine!

anyone knows if a stock c6 can handle a strong just rebuilt 400 with an estimated of 460lbs of torque? It was behind the engine when it was a 351m and worked perfectly buts all original on the inside....

thanx

I'd have to agree with JBradley...however I wouldn't exceed 500hp or 600 ft/lbs of torque...just in case you're planning on anymore future mods.

My 1969 460 came from the factory with a C6, and that engine produced 500ftlbs of torque. Still had no tranny issues at all after it was pulled with 120K on it.
