Dodge/Cummins-Actually I shot that bull at the Big Oak Elk Ranch in west union Ia. He weighed in at just about 1200lbs and the head mount is going to look great over my fireplace. Not to mention the elk steaks on the grill! If you are interested you can check out the ranch at WWW.Big Oak Elk Ranch.com. We had a great time and I intend to go back this fall on a russian boar hunt! Thats gonna be a good time and we have room for more so if any of you are interested, let me know and I can get you more info! By the way, the rifle is a lever action Marlin, .35 remmington, took that bad boy with 1 shot to the neck! It was FREAKIN AWESOME! Kinda put the frizzles on white tail hunting! LOL

I am putting in for the Elk draw in here. There are some monsters in Eastern Ky that have thrived. They have nothing chasing them and they aren't bothered by people. It really isn't hunting but they are huge. If I get a draw then I will take my Shiloh Sharps 1863. That will drop him or her.

Yes it will! I was going to use my .50 cal black powder but decided with the cold the marlin would be a lot easier! Sometime in the next few years I really want to go bear hunting-got my 45-70 all ready for that one!
Sounds like those kentucky elk should be real good targets! Good luck and send some pics when you get him!

I'd be more interested in the boar hunt as I've never done that but I'm gonna have to wait 'til the kids get raised up a little more (1,2,5,& 7) before I go on any long-distance hunts. THANKS FOR THE INVITE THOUGH! Boar will probably be my first "paid" hunt, then I'd like to go to Alaska after brown/grizzly bear with the custom .458 Win. Mag. I built for myself and shot my 7x7 with; almost ten years ago, it's been a long dry spell! I hunted with a Marlin 1895SS 45/70 this year but never saw anything to shoot at.
Thats the gun I have, a marlin cowboy special 45-70. Octagon barrel, but no scope, figure with that critter I ought to be able to put enough lead in the air, I wont need a scope, just a new shoulder! Actually the boar hunt is pretty reasonable-$500 for 2 boars! If you need someone to go along on that grzzly hunt, just let me know-the old F-250 super duty is chompin at the bit and ready to lean into the harness any time! LOL

We're probably going to get reprimanded for talking about hunting on here but mine's an old pre-safety rifle (the hammer's the safety, duh lawyers) with a reciever sight and a sourdough front, just like the old-timers used to do it!
Yeah, the cost is reasonable it's the gettin' there and the time off work that's expensive. No paid vacations for the self-employed!+
Someday I'm going to do it though.
I have seen Chevy 350 engines where the oil filter was never changed since it was first fired up, clogged up, pop the oil bypass open and destroy the engine in no time, so there is crap in there and only an IDIOT would not filter their oil!
BTW, they died around 25,000 to 30,000 miles.
And yes, the older air cooled VW engine did not have an oil filter, but they ran so hot the oil was beat to hell by the time the 3000 mile (with a filter, 1000 miles without filter) oil change interval came around.
And the soot, carbon black, Coagulated Pentane Insolubles, what ever you want to call it, is what turns the oil black and will not be filtered with the standard automotive oil filters, and will accumulate, and at saturation point will begin to act as an abrasive substance and wear things out, so even synthetic oil will need to be changed.
So, my question is, how do you guys filter the used engine oil to run it as fuel?
I assume the fuel filter will filter the finer particles well enough to run through the injectors, but what method do you use to filter the oil prior to pouring it into the fuel tank?
Those fuel filters are not cheap on my budget and I don't want to spend $25 on a fuel filter just to filter a gallon of oil that only saves me $4.25 on Diesel!
I have a remote filter (left over from my air cooled VW days) with hose connections so all I need is a cheap pump.
Any ideas?

Verified 19 mpg city taking off slow as hell the shutting down at red lights, and with the radiator grill blocked flush, no bed cover, "drag shoot" mirrors on I get 24 mpg at 50 to 55 mph on the freeway empty!
However, with a bed cover, no mirrors and Hydroxy
I have seen the "how to filter" question asked quite a few times without being answered. WELL I should say answered where us normal guys can do it with store-bought equipment.
Does anybody have an answer how to filter down to 3 microns, AT HOME?
I'm bettin' someone does!
Sorry Dave, been away a couple of days. As far as I know my family started out in Morgantown where my grandfather was a coal miner. I never met him as he passed away from black lung. My grandmother also died very early from a poorly executed surgery so all the siblings were dispersed among foster homes. My mother and a few others came out west and a few stayed behind. I know that one went to Florida, a couple to Ohio, and a couple to Pennsylvania. Where the few are that are in WV right now I'm not sure. I haven't spoken with them for a while but I know they'd be more than willing to help if I was interested in heading that way.
Are you SURE she said she "didn't care" or was it more like "just do whatever you want, your just going to anyway!"
Studies have shown that statement (and ones similarly stated) sounds like "I don't care" to 97.63% of men (in gun and truck owners it was 99.13%) but to the female brain it means something entirely different.
But don't let that stop you!
My feelings are that the smart person gets a 45/70 Gov't, but they are like...well you know, everbody's got one. SOMEDAY when I order a Sharps it's gonna be a 45-90. A little cooler than the 45/70 but not as hard to get dies, brass and ammo for as the 45-110 and 45-120 which is what Quigley's gun was by the way. I don't mean that to correct you as you can get the "Quigley" in about any caliber you want.
my books say lee or rcbs dies are fairly common in45-110/45-120.nosler,barnes and speer have a great choice of lead, and starline is punching brass.so go for it,you know you want to.

I'm going to load with real black powder and there is not a ton of ballistic advantage over 45-90 to the 110 and 120. There is a cool factor to those really long big-caliber cart. though!
