Richfaa & Mallie ....Good information ...I will 2nd that on everything in your postings.
Also...I just dropped off my 2008 F250 Ext/Cab 4X4 at the dealer to have the following
checked....Power Steering is sticking : truck requires tow hands to drive
Idler or Tenisioner is making noise, Blowing some blue/white smoke at times.
The four wheele drive 1 times would not turn-off.
So I expect to not have my work truck for at least a week, so I'am thankful for the spare work truck I kept.

No probs to date

20.5k miles to date - Job #1 truck. Not one warranty issue. Had all scheduled oil and filter changes. I tow a boat or a 5th wheel trailer just about every weekend in the spring through fall. No problems. There are some things I'd like to see improved, but I've not had a critical failure. I have the 20" Goodyears and they are wearing very well.

Seems like if you have a failure on these rigs, it's gonna be a major deal.

Things I'd like Ford to address:
-better A/C flow through the cabin and rear air ducts for passengers
-Redesign the air intake to eliminate ice in the air box
-Correct the fuel fill problem (vomits fuel due to venting problem)
-Put a protective grill on the front of the air charger radiator to prevent damage from your shoe tips (you will damage the fins) when you stand on the front bumper to get up under the hood to check oil.

Champ198:

Maybe I can solve one of your problems. Underneath both seats are AC ducts. They are easily covered by the rug and rear seat rugs.

This weekend I also found out there is a turning/directional cover on each side. Take a look and see if you have them. My next detective work will try to identify if any of the AC controls/fan speed actually controll them.

I had learned from an earlier post on this forum about the rear seat vents, but not about the directional covers, which I believe could be used to close them off. Good luck.

2000 F-350 PSD owner here... 250,000 on it with no problems. I hope my new 2009 F-350 6.4 does as well!

My Dodge loving friend was giving me the business about ordering a new PS. But I told him I'd rather have a truck made in the USA than one assembled in Mexico!

Mallie... perhaps being a loyal Ford customer was the problem not to mention completely believing "marketing." It was general knowledge that the new emmission standards would reduce MPG. Ford, GM and Dodge did not directly say that but the information was out there. Regeneration uses fuel to burn off the soot..that fuel is not used to turn the wheels..That in itself = less MPG.. and that was common knowledge. What affects me is the high cost of Diesel fuel. I figure pulling 13K plus and doing 10/11MPG is not all that bad...paying near 5.00 per gallon for fuel is what hurts.

Not only that, but Ford is 2 year ahead of the curve. Wait until Chevy and Dodge are required to comply in 2010... The SD might be top O' the Heap on mileage... as well as being the BEST truck on the road!

"New Ford 6.4L Diesel will be cleaner and get better mileage than previous 6.0L"

This was typical article, wonder how they got miss lead too?

And I never saw Ford correct the misconceptions.

It still might. They have another two or so years to perfect the 6.4 before the 6.7 comes out.

I am a Dodge owner. 2007.5 with the 6.7 engine. It is 2010 compliant. Ford and GM are not. I transport RV trailers and run 500 - 600 miles a day. Probably 90% of the RV haulers own Dodge but mostly only for the engine. Most of us would prefer Ford and many of us were 7.3 Ford owners at one time. With Fords 6 Liter fiasco most of us went to Dodge. I do not like the Dodge truck and would like to go back to a Ford, the F450. My Dodge has had more than its share of problems. 14 -15 times to the dealer for the same problem (sensors for the DPF and the DFP). Now I am having turbo problems, second time in 2 months. I have heard about some of the problems Ford has had with the 6.4 so I thought I would take a look at this thread see what kind of usage some of the Ford trucks were getting with no problems. My local Ford dealer has had a F450 on his lot since Easter. A few weeks ago I went in to talk to him but he really does not want my truck with 100k on it. About the only way I could swing that truck is for Chrysler to buy back my truck which I doubt they would do because I am commercial and because of the mileage. Gentlemen, enjoy your Fords. Don't fret the fuel mileage it's just part of the price you have to pay for driving a great truck. Just look at your savings in maintenance over the dodge. Dodge oil changes (7,500) Dodge fuel filter changes (15,000) Dodge axle fluid changes (15,000) Now look at yours, Oil, 10,000; Fuel filter, 20,000; Axle, 50,000.

What type of real towing milage do you get? The owner of a new 08 Dodge at Hershey Pa said he was averging about 9-10mpg towing 14k. We tow 17k and averaged 8.7 this summer for 2700 miles. of course the are of hills and speed make a difference. We tow with traffic speed except I do try to keep it under 67mph. Couldn't be happier with my 450.

I have the same experience as firehawk. Towed about 2000 miles a couple weeks ago and got just under 9mpg towing about 17k. Went over 5000 feet a couple times and 4000 a couple more times on my trip...each way. I kept it at 55 going...9.1mpg... and 62 coming home...8.5mpg...speed limit in OR and CA is 55 for anybody pulling a trailer.

Do you know of any web site on line that indicates all the 6.7 cummins engines are 2010 compliant in their existing configuration? I have read two separate conflicting news articles about this engine. The regulations must be extremely strict as CATERPILLAR has totally got out of the over the road engine business, from pickups to Class 8 vehicles.
