4.0 OHV for 4.0 SOHC???

01 sportTrac with SOHC, 152k miles w/5spd.
a couple months ago i replace the front cam cassette - using the special ford tool. ran just fine.

yesterday while pulling a hill on the fwy - it started to sound like pre-igntion (marbles in a can) - then the power dropped of and we coasted to shoulder.

i'm ready for a new engine...
Can i swap a 4.0 OHV in place of the SOHC?
is this a straight bolt-in?

the best way to check is to see how everything is on the donor truck. install it the same way on your sport track.

What is your smog check situation? The pushrod motor was not offered in '01 (afaik). You would not be able to do this in CA, not sure how AZ deals with older engines....

I'd fix the sohc motor.

the 4.0 OHV is not a straight bolt in, you will need a new PCM, as well as new wiring harness. Also be prepared for a significant drop in power.

It would be easier to stick another OHC engine in it. It may cost the same too because you'd about have to buy a whole donor truck to go backward and covert to an older OHV engine.
