Up here in the upper midwest I don't think it would last longer than an hour before someone would buy it for $1200. Up here any iron worth restoring can bring that and more. I say, as long as it runs, go for it.

Hi Bob
He told me that it didnt run, but a tune up was
all that it needed. I have heard that line before.
But they are hard getting to find

65 Econoline Pics

I say go for it. The body looks decent enough, and it's something different. I don't think I have ever seen one here in N.Y. Very cool...

i own one and they are pretty different to drive. the brakes need to be updated and you will probably find the shift linkage worn out needing a rebuild. first thing i did was rebuild the linkage and it was like night and day. the belly's like to rust out on these trucks. if its been sitting it probably needs : tune up,carb rebuilt,brakes,clutch,tires,battery.... most of the time someone parks a truck because it needs something at the time they parked it. for that kind of money i would want to test drive it before a dime left my hand.

just hate to see anyone get ripped off! i bought mine from a friend that got tired of making a career out of shifting, linkage was about to fall off and i drove it home in 2nd gear. the entire front suspension including steering box,new leaf springs $$$... was done to mine before i got it and well "they look cool!"

I would love to have one, $1200. Yes I would try to work him down, that's a given. But from the pics. looks like a solid truck. Sure it needs work thats why he wants $1200 and not $3000-$5000.

as we all know pictures hide lots of flaws. as we all know sometimes we want something and overlook the problems and as we all know that usually costs $$$. if i didn't own one personally and hadn't talked to others that own them i might of had a different opinion.

A question? If I do get it and have to pull the engine for work
how does it come out? From the bottom?
Thanks

that truck looks sooo much like mine when i first took delivery of it, that crappy blue all oxidized like that rust all in the boxfloor, holes in the same places.
sooo glad i changed the color of mine it's been apple green since the 1st time i did it over back in 93.
and yep the eng. can either come out thru the bottom or else pop the seats & engine box n' take it out thru the door,
make sure the motor mt. arms are good they get rusted & weak. (but e-z to fabricate new ones) also check the little subframy members which the rear of the rear springs go to make sure they ain't rotten.
if ya get the original eng. running and it is the orig 65 eng. & it runs well it'll likely run hot as they almost all do..... so hot that the exh. manifold is likely cracked. consider changing the cyl head to either late 70's early 80s 200 or 250 head it'll run cooler (better cooling passages) more h.p.(bigger valves) and unleaded gas ready (proper valve seats) it's an e-z conversion as i remember it use the 65 rocker asm. drill & tap for the water pipe carb warmer base to fit the intake, adapter pieces for the temp sender.
good site's for info are the yahoogroups "econosrus" and "oldeconolines" real good buncha guys & a lotta knowledge on there

if you really wan't one of those pickups put a wanted ad on craigslist. every time i'm looking for something i seem to get somebody that responds. last ad i placed(free) i was looking for a GMC FWD motorhome for the chassis of the 54' coe i'm going to build and had a guy respond that had 3 pretty much junk ones, just what i was looking for. when i do multiple ads i just reword it a little and they have no problem posting them. they won't do duplicates. that truck from the pictures has lots of rust. the motor will come out the top through the pass.side. the last one i helped with they had removed the door.

took my econo into town for the 1st time this year today first thing in the morning as i was turning into town a rather elderly lady in a chev "U" van gave me 2 thumbs up. then at noon whilst i was filling up a lady & her young-ish daughter came up to me and told me "your truck makes us smile"
after 15 years of ownership the fun never seems to end as an econoline owner/driver
