So i got my oil changed and the guy at quicklube told me that Ford recommends i get the front and rear axles fluids changed and that it will take about 30min to do and cost about 80bucks. I was just wondering if any of you have had this done at 50k or if you waited longer. To me it just seems like a way to get 80bucks from me.
you're right. He just wants you're money. If you are maintenance schedule it recommends 90 or 100k to change our lube. I just changed mine at 91000 and the fluid was fine. Not burnt or milky. Unless you have submerged your axles, you can wait awhile longer
im not sure off the top of my head what they hold, but i bet that 80.00 isnt too much more than the cost of the oil.... seeing as you plow with yours, they are obviously worked harder than others like mine..... that being said, if it was me i would do it. if i was worried about spending my money on oil changes, i wouldnt be bringing it in to a shop.
Funny. I had a Dodge Dakota for 4 years. The service schedual for the front and rear diff service was every 19000 km. Ford does not put a diff service in there maintanance schedual.
in the owners manual it says that the rear diff lube never needs to be changed unless the axle is submerged in water and is sealed for life in my 2001 f150 screw 4x4 5.4l
I've driven cars 40,000-50,000 miles per year for the last 45 years and I never change the differential grease and I've never had any problem. If you let him change it, he will want to change your turn signal fluid next time.
They change the oil because i feel its worth it for them to change it. They change it because it only takes them 10mins to do it. They change it because it needs to be done and i dont want to do it. However unlike the oil change i dont feel like the fluid in the axles needs to be changed thus i dont want to give them the money to do it.
