Pulled up next to a OBS f150 at the pump, when the owner came out and asked why I had my drivers side drive tire on 2-2x6s, I told him about the shallow angle of the tank fill spouts and what not, chit chatted for a little bit, Washed the windshield and reset the odometer.

I got ambitious today after work and bought a new master cylinder and reservoir. Since I bought the truck in April, the brakes never felt quite right. The truck would stop fine but then the pedal would go soft and go to the floor. After doing some research on the symptoms I figured I'd give replacing the MC a shot. Only bench bleeding the MC and installing it, I can feel a difference in the pedal. On Sunday I will bleed the system and test drive it.

Clarke, did you inspect the brake booster too?, A lot of times the seal on the plunger shaft of the master goes bad and allows fluid to leak into the brake booster. Happened to me. Didn't seal right and I'd hear air whooshing when I pushed down on the pedal and then let up.

Today I installed new Moog CC824 springs in the front of my truck and also bled the brakes from a recent master cylinder change. In trying to perform the bleeding process, I found that one of the bleeder valves was rusted onto the caliper so I switched out the caliper as well. Overall, I am very happy. The truck is within 1/4" of level and the brakes are working awesome.

Smile Mega Progress this Weekend

Made some good progress on the F150 this weekend. First, I drove the truck for the first time, other than moving it 50-100' in the yard. It's not road worthy yet as the front body work is mostly missing and it's not registered. I had a buddy riding shutgun on my tail to protect the rear view of the license plate while we drove to his shop a couple miles away.

The good news is that, once you put the shifter in neutral-and-a-half (alignment of the indicator is off) the E4OD works wonderfully in all gears and OD. The bad news is that there is a little slop in the steering. I have to move back and forth between noon and one o'clock positions.

We go it up on the lift and did a thorough inspection underneath. What we found was:
1) Quite rust free - better than expected
2) Small weep on the front seal of the rear diff
3) Small weep on the rear seal of the transfer case
4) Steering slop appears to be in the steering box itself
5) Need to replace the tie rod end on the steering crank in the near future as the boot is torn half off.

What we got done was new front bearings, oil seals, rotors, calipers, pads, soft lines, and wheel studs. Put new locking lug nuts on the new studs. Put new Warn Premium manual locking hubs on to replace the old automatics. It was great having two front brakes when I drove back home.

Progress finally. Feels good.

I removed the rear panel from the tailgate , the plastic trim to hold on the panel was broken. Polished the tailgate. I went to Ace hardware today and found these 3/4 plugs that fit great. I may take them out and paint them body color.

Brought my 302 that I got from a buddy for $100 for my 88 F150 to the machine shop they told me they have to bore it at least .030 over. So he is going to bake it and bore it then I have to get the kit. I also need a new cam (staying a stock one) and the heads need rebuilt.

I also brought in my brother's 91 F250 460 block and he said it also needs bored .030 over so looks like he gets some big expenses too. he also needs a new cam. His heads however are in great shape. They are baking it and boreing it and I should have both blocks back by Friday.
