The Truck of the Year is just as flawed as the Car of the Year.

M/T changed the way new vehicles qualified several years ago.

Only all new or significantly changed vehicles are tested now.

The reason in 2007 (for example) that the "badge engineered" GM twins were tested against each other, plus the one (or two-forget) other truck that qualified.

How M/T determined that the Silverado was a better pile than the Sierra is beyond me.

Except for minor sheet metal and interior changes, these two are identical.

Could it be that there are more Silverado ads in the rag than Sierra ads?

Naw....M/T would never give an award to a vehicle that the parent company places (SPENDS) more ads (MONEY) in their rag than someone else does.

Uh huh, yeah right...advertising DOLLARS has EVERYTHING to do with it!

Maybe it's because the Silverado had *Rainsense* wipers and the Sierra did not.

The wipers turn on when water hits them, right?

1955 Fords had a similar option, a chromey grilled device on the left front fender that turned the wipers on when water made an appearance.

It didn't work worth a damn, and was discontinued at the end of the model run.

Another device Ford put little thought into, like the rolling door locks on 1967 Thunderbirds - a FIASCO!

Well Lincoln dusted it off and perfected it. Rainsense wipers are a nice feature on long drives.

Why on long drives?

You mean to tell me that your hands are so tired after gripping the wheel for hours, they can no longer reach for the wiper switch?

All these gizmos give up the ghost, usually the day after the warranty expires, and are expensive to fix.

Lincoln perfected what, rolling door locks? LOL, the system needed perfecting, because Ford forget one important thing when they designed it = car washes.

LOL, so true! If I ever see a late model vehicle with a hand crank starter, I'll know it belongs to you!

I have two now, but they are 1930's cars = without rain sensing wipers, power: steering, windows, seats, all the usually stuff my more modern piles have.

You can still buy new vehicles today that can be hand cranked, but you have to go to Europe and Asia to find them.

The Trabant and Moscovitch are a couple of piles that can be hand cranked, but that usually doesn't get the engine started.

Both cars are total pieces of crap foisted on the public by Russkie automakers.

Well, the less cramped exhaust of the F150 over the Expy will give it a few ponies for free.

efx4 is starting off with a positive reputation.
Truck Trend and Motor Trend are published by the same publishing company (Source Interlink Media). Toyota Tundra recieved their best in class crew cab truck because they saw it as having many of the best attributes in it's class. But some of us that read the specs should note that the F-150 SuperCrew has the same payload, and is 160 lbs. lighter. And the F-150 has head and side airbags that Toyota doesn't offer (or any other truck for that matter). All that can be done for now is to let Toyota have their time in the sun, because Toyota's competition is going to start bearing down on them quite hard, IMO. Toyota has made itself a moving target.

Motor Trend's history....

...includes giving Car of the Year awards to both the Chevy Vega and the Renault Alliance

They certainly have different folks working there, but I've never taken them quite seriously....

The Tundra might have been truck of the year but a "local" Toyota Dealer had ads on TV tonight selling new 2007 Tundras. Maybe they will get them sold before the 09s come out.

Hey now, in 1970, the Torino was car of the year

Ford needs to up the power big time, The 09 Hemi has 380hp and 404lb/ft with a very flat torque curve like the current Hemi has. Over 300lb/ft from 1000rpm- up. And a very good Lifetime powertrain warranty!!

Those warranties are a little bogus though, how often now does somebody buy a truck and keep it more then 2 or 3 years? Non transferable warranty kinda sucks

Originally Petersen Publishing Company, who also published HOT ROD, CAR CRAFT, dozens of others.

COTY: The Citroen SM (Sports Maserati = a sports coupe with a Maserati engine) was introduced into the US as a 1973 model.

The test car (it was metallic blue) was totaled in midyear 1973, after a drunk driving a new 1973 Continental Mark IV, ran into the rear of it while it was parked on the street.

The Citroen was hit so hard, it was pushed into the back of a 1965 Impala, which totalled that, too.

Usually the Citroen occupied one side of the garage, but some Dummy had a newly purchased 1947 Packard stashed there.

My dad was the West Coast Citroen & Maserati Distributor.

First COTY: 1949 Cadillac, the first car to have an OHV V8 engine (331 cid).
