I've got both a radar detector and Sirius radio running off my Cig adapters and would like to hard wire both and i am no installer. Can someone give me some advice please?

Ford Wiring Information

1. Find your vehicle.
2. Get radio wiring colors and use accessory or constant power (depends on your preference).
3. Test wires to make sure, fuse power line and ground other.

Easiest thing to do is use a cigarette lighter adapter so so there is no destroying the cig. plugs. Do not just cut the cigarette plugs off and try to wire up....The newer Sirius units run off 6 volts not 12 and you will fry the unit.

The radio bezel just pops off.

For the GPS, I'd be alright finding a 12V wire under my steering column and splicing in, correct? The frickin' fuse panel is clear over on the right side of the truck as you know. I'm going to do mine tomorrow.

Make sure the GPS runs off 12v. It should say either in the manual or on the GPS at the power connection. Some of those GPS units have big funky cig. plugs.

I was going to poke into the wire coming out of the "big funky cig plug" tomorrow with a multimeter to check the voltage prior to doing that, in case it is a small step-down device. If it turns out to be 6V or something weird, then I'll have to find a way to wire that inline. Best Buy will do it for $34.00, so it can't be that hard...lol

I spliced in a loose cig. adaptor behind the dash into the power feed for the cig lighter. Then plugged the sirius into this loose adapter and tied it up out of ther way. Don't cut the end off the Sirius plug, you will fry your unit! I ran the wires down under the dash try and mounted the base unit just above the try at the base of the window. It's a little out of reach so I use the remote which works out good for me.

I have to say, even though that wasn't directed to me, I'm going to steal your idea and apply it to my GPS...
