Andrew,
I had this long arse post about 300 head porting and my puter froze.

I seriously doubt my second try will be as good.

here are some pics

I dont have word on my computer any more so I cant open all my word documents with years of saved research so this is all off memory....for the second time
The ultimate I-6 head on the relitive cheap would be

240 head .010 off deck to bump compression up to about 9:1
Machine valve size to accept 305 Chebby stainless valves with a 3 angle valve job and ported like the pics above
Machine for screw in studs and 1.7 roller rockers. I forget which engine they need to be for.

This head will support 350HP but the rest of your engine as it sits will not.

Hey guys. Never really posted much in this section. Checked it out a bit last night, and some more today. Looks like you guys got a good thing going here. Bunch of smart guys helping out. If I ever get a 4x4, I'll be checking in here more often.

Keep up the good work!

So how would this effect the power band?

littleme, ever have any issues getting your blaster to idle right? I think I have it pretty down, just seems like sometimes it doesn't want to come down to where it should be. Time for brakes and wheel bearings now...

i dont think mine ever idled right to be honest. i had it when i lived in maine and the weather never stayed to same so if it was cold it would idle ok but the next day itd be warmer and idle like crap. one thing i found is i could not use the airbox lid under the seat. what year is yours. mine was an 03 and the stock intake hole in the box was way to small. no problems with water or mud just couldnt go threw deep water fast. just make sure to run a pre filter. after i did this it ran 10x better then before.

depending on your cam it might move it up a bit, cuz the rockers will act like a bigger cam.

Mine is a 2000. I can get it close, it just seems that it's kinda a hit and miss thing. I may have to try running it without the lid for while. I rode it earlier with it off, but it wasn't warmed up all the way yet, so not sure how it will like it or not.

another thing run carbon fiber reeds instead of the plastic ones they handle the cold starts better. the stock ones dont like runnin cold and if you get on it too much before it warms up they crack. that might be your problem, even the smallest crack will mess them up and it wont idle for crap. another cheap mod i found was the carb spacer. with the carb spacer and carbon fiber reeds it helps a lot for lik3 40 bucks. this is where i got most my parts for mine.
