You can use the F150 springs.
I've seen it done a few times. Just find yourself a decent donor truck. You won't want to try and buy every thing seperate, you'll nickel and dime yourself to death.

you can use f150 springs. and the 98 and 97 ranger are very different. 98 they redesigned the frames and front suspension. 98 frame is fully boxed in front and they went to the torsion bar setup on 4x4s but im not sure if they switched to it on the 2x4s. or if they run a coil spring as they did on some of them ive seen. 98 and early 99s are a ******* setup as they were the trial and error for a lot. mid 99 they switched from the crappy pulse vacume lock hubs to a fully locked frontend like the awd explorers.

x2 on that/ try and find a 78 or 79 and just swap everything over. i know you had a hard time finding a decent one to build and thats why your trying to do the ranger but all yoiu need it the running gear so find a junk bodied one and scrap or part out what you dont need. parting it out could give you more money for your build thou.

mike, if you were about 3 hours closer i would make a trip down one weekend and give ya a hand with this project. its really not too bad esp with the correct tools. maybe we can work something out. i have a place in cedar key which is about 2 hours from you... just dont know when i would be able to get down there.

Thats what I have in my mind for the 300. A propane setup, with a low end turbo with intercooler, may some alky spray/water spray.

Actually I'm looking at a turbo off of some 300 something cubic inch diesel motor, guy's supposed to get back at me with a model number and whatnot. Should be close, and if the price it right I'll get it. This isn't something I'll do soon. More like gather parts few a few months thing.

Theres some interesting stuff out there out doing it to a efi 300, but not alot on carbs. I dont want to deal with setting a carb up for blowthrough, and I want an intercooler so that rules out a draw through. That leaves efi, or far simpler, propane.
I'm thinking a custom exhaust header and log type intake manifold, and medium sized intercooler.

Sounds like fun... I have decided that i need a project to work on. Ive been getting into to much trouble lately. I need something to devote my time to and something to learn about also. Very intresting i absolutly despised school, but i love to learn new stuff, well stuff that i can use anyways. I think im gunna build a new motor for my truck... a smaller version of what kris has goin on right now. Probably alot cheaper too. I was thinking a 351 stroked to probably a 408, turboed and runnin on propane. Just a though i got goin right now.
So what do yall think?

Or a really nice sized centrifugal super charger. that would be sweet. If I could only get my hands on one.....
