6bt minimum for your truck nick and even then I don't think it'd perform too well.
My bronco is spending more and more time on trails/rocks than in mud pits these days, I'm starting to think I might be better off with a tiny diesel instead of a EFI 460 monster..

Don,
I bought George with the 460 and many of the expensive parts already on there so its kinda hard to break it all down. I will tell you that on 460ford.com similar iron head engines can be had for $3000-3500 turn key.
my new parts were rather expensive
from ScottyJ
TFS heads stage 2 ported $2700
Custom ground cam and lifters $230
Cost to recurve my distributor $65
Custom built torque converter $250 I think
Comp cams promag rollers $330
From Jegs
All the Felpro gaskets and crapola $125
Cloyes double roller timing chain and TFS pushrods $200
ARP head bolts $115
MSD 6AL with duraspark hook up $230
MSD wires $55
MSD coil $45
Percys header gaskets $15
My napa bill is somewhere around $100-125 for
a new t-stat, engine spray paint, spark plugs, fuel filter, locktite, permatex, and some antiseeze.

actually thinking into the future... i think that is a very good idea paul... im sure gas will just continue to rise... until horses become the major means of transportation again...

The 4BT makes a mild 105 hp but a whopping 265 ft/lbs of torque and even at this stock rating, this diesel powers even a large, sprung over or tall 80-series Land Cruiser wagons with larger tires very well. That said, with the simple turn of some screws, it can easily make over 160 hp and over 400 ft/lbs of torque, and deliver just as much power as the early Dodge/Cummins 6 cyl diesels, but with some loss of mileage and some slightly increased noise. Quoting Enzo Ferrari, "horsepower sells cars, torque wins races." This 4 cyl engine delivers more torque than most V8s and this engine will literally idle over anything, which also reduces the need for deep gearing for trucks that are offroaded.
nick id stick with a gasser. your gonna need a lot of wheelspeed to clean anything you put on that monster you call a truck. plus if you need the lower torque you already got 2 t cases. if you wanted to go diesel id find something bigger then the 4bt, a 6bt night do it but youd prob spend more money tryin to get it to spin the rpms you need or youd have to regear your axles, which i know you cant to for a couple months.
i dunno man, with the right gearing that thing will move some weight! i know on my truck, once the turbo kicks in and starts pushing the boost i find it mighty easy to spin tires!
