Karl,
cant you reuse your stock bolts? IIRC they are quite strong from the factory. Maybe the length is why Scotty said I couldnt reuse my factory bolts or else I deffinately would have.

sooo, i had a really bad idea today. since the bronco aint gonna be driveable for a long time yet. ( im spending all my extra money on other things) what if i took the 473 and all the swap parts ( motor mounts headers clutch ect.) and put in my 79 f-150, that has a tired 400. and i put the 400 and parts in the bronco. atleast till i get every thing done on the bronco then i might put the 473 back in the bronco. of get another 460.
what do ye think?
sorry for the bad spelling
if you really care, too bad, i dont.

I dont see a problem with it. The plumbing and mounts etc are easy to change between the 400 and 460 and you might as well keep the engine in use rather than sitting up getting moisture in the cylinder walls.

Nah, they were pretty beat up when I pulled them. I think when the PO rebuilt the motor he re-used the stockers, and from what all I have heard, you can do it once, but after that you never get the right torque cause the stretch is too much. I went to the ford stealer today and they want $9 each for the long bolts (need 10 of those) and $7 for the shorts (also need 10), so for that price, I might as well get the ARP studs, and from what the local speed shop told me (which uses them on their alky car), they pull their heads on an off with the same studs more times than I can count without replacing, and they only use the 190k psi studs, so if its good enough for them, then I;m sure it'll be plenty for my little 460.

Ok so apparently some small minded people dont understand that the truck in this signature is a combination of many sarcasims. Please quit being stupid and study up before you run your mouth about it.
Thats good to know that the 190k psi stuff is that strong. Ive read on 460ford.com that studs are rarely necessary for most NA builds so I didnt drop the extra money on them. I like the way a complete studed block looks when its on the engine stand. Like a big nasty blue porcupine!
Should I paint Georges engine back ford blue? I thought about doing something different but I dont like change...much.

Man, I think it's a terrible idea. I think you need to donate it to me to use in my ranger until I get my motor finished, that way I'll run it on a diet of 110 race fuel and make sure no carbon or moisture gets built up in the thing!

For me the studs are actually cheaper than the bolts, so I'm going that route, then I'll have them for the bigger build, or just leave them for my Uncle.
As for painting the motor, I'm going with Ford RED, and the body will be the dark Ford blue like on my SD. Kinda creating a theme, of sorts (r-w-b)...

Karl,
you could always "test" to see just how much nitrous it can take safely.
Coleman,
I dont think Karl would charge for his services.
I'd go easy on her and just run a little 250 shot!. And I'd provide the "engine running/testing" service free of chage. Always willing to help a fellow Ford fan out!!!

Speaking of oil, Steve over in the VA forum (Frankentruck) is selling me an oil pan that came from an F600 that had a 429. From the pics, it looks much bigger than a standard truck pan, looks to be close to 10 qts! So the question is where to get a pickup for that pan or do you think the standard truck pan will work?
