When Allan Mullally took over Ford, he visited Toyota's HQ.
He stated (I'm paraphrasing here) That Toyota is the most efficient auto maker in the world.
Take that for what it's worth.
FTE Fred is 100% correct in that Toy has ventured into different markets than what got them here.
But they would never have grown by just sellling bare bones trucks and econo boxes.
Obviously, they have suffered with QC problems because of this growth.
The fact remains that Ford, GM also still suffer QC problems......there is no perfect vehicle.
Waiting anxiously for the patriot card to be played on this one.....
WWII....
Ethnic remarks...
But who knows, maybe the "gong bong" haters will continue posting with their men and stay out of this one???
Stay tuned.

Quality builds loyalty...
I believe that Toyota, as well as Honda, have established a loyal customer base. Ford, GM, and other companies have lost a good part of their base by building a lot of vehicles with catastrophic and expensive problems--I have been on a lot of forums where someone has had, for instance, a ton of problems with a Ford Explorer transmission or something like that, and swore they'll never buy another Ford (or even another domestic) car or truck. Some of these problems are attributable to bad dealer service.... Kind of sad, as I'm partial to the Big Three, being a Detroiter. I actually swore off GM after a '96 Savana Van from hell that, in 66k miles, went through 3 transmissions, 7 valve bodies, 2 fuel pumps, an alternator, a starter, windows falling out(!), etc. Had a 60k warranty so *most* of the expense was not mine, but I could not trust it. Final straw was the DexCool dissolving the intake manifold gaskets (fortunately external leak, no hydrolock), and I wrote a LOT of letters to GM, and they eventually paid half the expense... Traded that van in (only vehicle I ever traded instead of selling) on my '02 E150, which has been pretty good, not perfect.
One thing I can say is that Toyota's current styling is UGLEEE, and I'd refuse to buy a number of their products for that reason.
I do know that Ford and the other domestic companies had better get on the small, economical car bandwagon REALLY quick, as the $4 gas is going to render obsolete the idea of a gigantic pickup or SUV as a "personal commuter vehicle". The marketplace is schizophrenic right now, with a lot of folks thinking they need 400 horsepower, and then complaining that their car/truck gets 12 mpg.
Part of the process will be re-educating consumers to not buy vehicles "by the pound", but showing them that folks will pay a few more bucks for a small car that will go a couple hundred thousand miles and bring very high resale (like a Honda Civic, compared to Focuses or Escorts).
And, I still believe that small and useful trucks (like the original mini-pickups, or the new Transit Connect) will take over a lot of the utility market. Most people who buy an F150 etc. (or those who used to) do NOT need a 6,000 lb truck that requires a ladder to load something into the bed, with heated and cooled seats, a Lincoln interior, etc. A truck should be a truck, IMO. A tupperware Hummer 2 is not a truck, but a driveable phallus....

Toyotas are ok from what I read. I drive a honda car and the thing is pretty good so far. Ive had a focus as a rental car a few times, and although it was too bad at all either, it did come in second (imo) to the honda, but not by far.
I know nothing much about the toyota trucks except that so far they are getting good reviews. They seem to be getting so many good reviews, its hard to think they cant be good too, if ya know what I mean.
Toyota and honda have one thing going for them. They have the well known rep for being really reliable and lasting along time.
Im not saying they do, or they dont, but they do have that rep!
I would be the first one to tell ya when i have a probllem with my honda too. I judge em as i see em.
I cant help but wonder if this is the third toyota thread in the past few days that gets shut down! Lets try and keep er going this time, without getting into er with each other
Im from Canada, we make love up here, not war
Not that Im suggesting anyone trys to make love to anyone else in here either, that just aint right
