...I`m thinking about bying a German Ford Howling Truck with a Flathead V8 Engine built in 1958 by Ford in Cologne. Is it a problem to find Engine Parts like gaskets, seals, water pump, distributor, generator, starter, carb parts and others?

hmm ive only heard of the french ones, not any german ones. Someone with higher learning (know more than me) will post...... i hope

 

...sorry for my bad english, it is a "tow truck" not a "howling truck" - how stupid!
Anyway, what I found out now, there is a german made 239 V8 Engine! The number is G29T. It has an old Block with the distributor in the rear and newer 24 bolt heads with the water outlet in the front corner. I searched at "google" for "G29T" and found some information.

I have read that the motor is basically the same as the US built ones. Gaskets and bearings and stuff like that should be interchangable. I read that the German flathead was built until the early '60s.

About 1/2 way though that thread a second guy asked about a German motor he picked up. A fellow there posted a picture of his German with US 59AB heads on it. That thread has a link to German stuff (I went there quickly one day but everything is in German and its been 15+ years since I took German).

Here is another good thread over there on the German -- I just did a search for "german flathead" and got a bunch of hits but this one looked interesting -- with contacts who know a little about them :-)

My truck was factory equipped with a V4 2-stroke Diesel engine. You could choose also between a V6 2-stroke and a Flat V8 Engine. These 2-stroke engines were good on gas but had too many problems, so Ford USA decided to quit truck production in germany in 1961.

No, it has no tilt, no power steering and no brake booster. This truck is only for the tough ones!
What I found out til now is. that many parts are interchangeable.
It has the newer engine style with the water outlets in the front corner of the head, but like te older style, the distributor(Bosch) in the rear.
The transmission is 4-speed manual, and the original radio plays elvis only!!
