428 Crank Balancer ? ...

I found this little jewel on eBay just now and was wondering if I could use this in place of a 428 Flywheel on my 410 to balance the engine ? ... Somehow, I lost track of the 428 Flywheel I had originally used on this engine (way back in 1984) and it currently has a 390 Flywheel on it ...

"If" it's a 428 crank using a 390 flywheel it's been internaly balanced and doesn't require the the 428 flywheel or funky balancer.

That weight is for compensation for the Lemans rods used in the SCJ 428. I'm not up on balancing of cranks, and not sure you could use that as the weight has to be place properly to be of use.

You have a 390 wheel on your 410? Does it have a distinct shake about 3000 rpm? It should, as the balance is not correct. My first 428(20 yrs ago) came with a 390 wheel on it and it shook to beat the band. Not knowing what was wrong it took a few months and lots of talk before I found out the reason.

I internally balanced both of my 428's so I could run a neutral 390 wheel. Easier to find a replacement if need be.

Yep the guys are right on this. Your IU 428/410 crank has a balance pad on #5 counterweight the IUA SCJ crank does not in order to use the "cookie cutter" SCJ counterweight. The SCJ setup put more weight on the nose of the crank which is really not a good thing. But because of tighter internal clearances of the longer stroke 428 cranks they could not add weight to the countrweights so they were external balanced.

Makes Sense ...

Yes, I did notice that the listing said the Balancer was for a SCJ 428, so I best just buy a 428 flywheel ...
