Rear Limited Slip

ok I bought a 99 Expedition in January 2008 and everything was fine with it. I took it on a 500 mile trip and the limited slip overheated (I guess) and would not release. After sitting for about 4 hours it worked fine. On the way home it did it again but as I got closer to home and the outside temp droped it started working fine. Any Ideas?

Sounds like it's time for a rearend fluid change. At the very least check the fluid level, but if you haven't changed it since you bought it, it'd be good insurance to change the fluid to make sure you have the right stuff in there, and to make sure it has the friction modifier in there that the limited slip needs.

That's what I was thinking but wasn't 100% sure. Also is Ford the only place to get the friction Modifier?

well you can get friction modifier just about any parts stores, but most people on here recommend you stick with the ford stuff.

Ya know I didn't even check it. I just poped the cover and drained it into a drain barrel. I figured it had never been changed and at 140K it needed it regardless.
