F150 tranny problems???

I have a 1999 F150 4x4 ext.cab. It is just about ready to turn over 36,000 miles meaning that it will be out of warranty soon. I have heard a couple of stories about tranny problems and am wondering 1) if they are true and 2) should I consider an extended warranty. I would like to hear from other Ford truck owners about any problems they have had after the original 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty expired. Thanks in advance for your help.

F150 tranny problems???

I bought a used 99 F150 extended cab 4x4 XLT from a local dealer earlier this year. It was out of the warrenty period by a few miles. I bought the "premium" extended warrenty for $1600 dollars.Bear in mind that you have a $100 deductable when you bring it in with a problem. Also you must pay for the "diagnostic" fees if they claim they cannot find a problem. At any rate, I was having problems with the transmission shifting into 2nd gear. Depending on how hard I was accelerating, it would seriously lag going into 2nd gear. Finally I couldn't stand it anymore, so I took it to the dealer for repairs. They said that there was a problem and they would fix it. Now about a month later, It is starting to shift a little sloppy again. They showed me the bill for the repairs, it was almost $1000.00. For that kind of money, it should last 100k miles. After reading through all of the postings on this site, and simular sites, I have found that my truck has 80% of the problems mentioned. The drivers door is cracked, I have oil leaking on the back of the engine (5.4l), it stumbles when I first take off in the morning, and the engine sounds like it has rod bearings made of tissue paper. "Normal" noise my butt! Please, Please, Please read all of these postings about your year and make of truck. It has really opened my eyes. I have owned ford trucks for the past 21 years. I sadly say that I will not buy another! Good Luck

You have got to be kidding. Try checking out a chevy site and see the problems they have. I have to drive chevys at work and it's bad enough the taxpayer has to pay for the junk that was delivered to Uncle Sam. It is unfortunate that you got a bad Ford. But I've seen too many dodges and chevys that should've been made into boat anchors and your tax dollars paid for them.

If your dealer isn't taking care of you - call Ford and state your case.
