I want my potatoes on my plate, not in my tank!
Making ethanol from food crops is a bad idea. We found that out last year with the rise in the cost of corn. The USDA just released the planting numbers for corn for 2008, DOWN from 93.4 million acres, to 86 million acres, a drop of 8%!! Ethanol plants are going to be paying more for their corn this year, as will all meat producers.............Result? Higher prices for food and fuel...........Food or fuel, which is your pleasure?

Potatoes Eh!
Read Micheal Pollin's book you'll find what a dicey
crop they are!!
Depend upon farmers-- look what they all did with
their co-op investments in biodiesel plants... the business
model was to be profitable with $6 bushel soy beans..they
all went out and planted corn... there are abunch of farmer
owned biodiesel plants for that reason and of course a few
other minor ones, sitting around idle!
If you spend a little more effort in front of your computer
on the internet you'll find a few more likely solutions:
psud.pk Petrosun might be one of them!!

I have long advocated for nonfoodstock sources of oil for production of BioDiesel.
Petrosun is going to use algae and I applaud that. Their first plant is supposed to go operational in 2008.
There are some studies available that suggest replacing all gasoline engines with diesels and using algae to produce 100% of the fuel. Estimates are that it could be done with approx 15,000 square miles of pond surface. That can easily be done on land currently not used for food production.
