1948 F5 Need Some Engine/Tranny Info

I found a 48 F5 today that had a V-8 flathead with Mercury heads. I think they said ECM on them. They were the new style with the water outlet in the front of the engine. Did Ford trucks come with Mercury engines at that time or did someone maybe put in a new engine at some point?

I was thinking about using the engine and tranny in my 29 Ford Coupe instead of the usual SBC. I think the torque and sound of the flathead may be interesting.

Anyone that can give me some history on this engine and truck would be appreciated. Thanks.

'48 and up trucks had the "new" flathead with the tubes at the front.
