89 Ford Ranger 2 wheel drive, A4LD transmission. I have a leak that seems to be coming from the area above and behind the rear of the pan. It looks to be coming from the gasket area where the rear extension housing meets the rear of the body of the transmission. (Not the very rear seal where the yoke inserts into the transmission) I found general instructions on removal and replacement but have a couple of questions. There is a speedometer sensor that inserts into the rear extension housing, held on by a retainer and 1 bolt. When reinstalling is it just inserted, or is there some orientation? I will need to raise the transmission about an inch, not having a transmission jack can I use a floor jack and block of wood on trans pan without damage to the pan? If I gently lift the transmission will it damage the engine? The current gasket appears to be a black paper gasket. Should I clean up and install dry, or use RTV?

Finally did the task of replacing the rear extension housing gasket to transmission body. I received 0 responses to my questions so assume my transmission is so out of date there is little interest or knowledge on this subject. For future reference on this outdated transmission I was able to access and jack the transmission with a shop jack and block of wood to lift without damage. I was able to reinstall the speedomoter cable with a little effort like a distributor. rotate and reinsert.
