OT: Going on a road trip, should I take my truck?
So today at work I got called up to the main office from the plant and was told that the company would like to me to go to their new manufacturing facility and supervise them getting set up and ready to run one of our biggest (and most expensive) product lines...
I'm going to Chaineux, Belgium. I am completely flattered and just had to tell someone besides Susan. It just feels really good to know that they know that I can be trusted with their manufacturing facilities, no matter where they are.
Anyway, not meaning to brag but I am feeling pretty good right now and just wanted to share.

Thanks, Carl!
They said to be prepared for two weeks. They also want me to hand pick two of my best guys from out in the plant to take with me. I think I have that part nailed down already. Just sitting here now typing up some things that we need to make sure that we do while we are there and also things that we need to have in position before we hit the ground there.
It's all a little overwhelming but still pretty exciting.

Thanks, Justin. It's not really a promotion but if past history repeats itself it could turn into something down the road. Really though, just the chance to go and do this job is enough for me.
We manufacture everything that is needed to look for, drill for and recover oil and natural gas, on land or at sea. We sell the complete system. My specialty is power section drilling motors.

Congratulations Scott.
Be sure you tell Susan how busy you'll be over there so she doesn't do what my wife does and come up with a list of projects for you while you're out of town.
Of course being from Texas they will expect that you ride your horse to work, but if you tell them you know J.R. Ewing you should be the most popular guy around.
As mentioned, they do like their beer over there, just not quite as cold as we're used to but a tad bit stronger.
Enjoy yourself and let us know how it goes.

That is a very nice feather in your cap, Scott.
But I'm wondering a bit about your question on whether to take the truck or not.
Are you going on a company boat and they can ferry your truck over there for free?
I think the shipping costs alone would far outweigh two weeks vehicle rental.

Don't take the Truck, parking spaces are way to small down there.
You will be close to the Dutch part of the country but this is still French speaking, if you are lucky the speak both, in that case the are good at broken english.
Town to go to will be Maastricht in Holland only 30 min away.
Best town to go to will be Amsterdam 2 1/2 Hrs away.
This area has a lot of WWII stuff around, south (battice) is were Patton was.
You will have fun if you have some R&R.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the well wishes.
I should be able to keep in touch with FTE while I am there. Susan works for the same company as a PC/LAN Tech with the IT Dept and she said she would make sure I am hooked up with a laptop and wireless card before I go. That way I can get on here while at the hotel and post pictures and stories of what I have seen.
So far I have three pages of stuff typed up for the trip. I hope we can do it all in two weeks.
