Hot wire for battery/winch on the trailer?
Hey fellas.
I'm using a car hauler/flatbed trailer.
It's lights/brakes are 7 pin RV blade style.
The connector on my truck used to be 7 pin round, I swapped it for the 7 blade RV style.
There is a wire on the truck side of the RV connector that I did not use, it's said to be for a 12v, is this the wire I want to run to the battery on the trailer?
The winch will be powered by a battery, but is this the line for charging the battery?
I'd also like to have some work lights wired up to the trailer, for loading/unloading in the dark.
But I'd like to have control of them from the cab via switches.
I'd also like to wire a pair of work lights under the back of the truck, same thing for loading/unloading, and increased visibility for trailer connecting.
So, what should I tie the 12v power in the harness into on the truck's chassis, and any thought on how to go about the work lights would be great.
I know very little about electrical, relays, switches and the like.
I'd like to do this myself to keep my overall costs down.
Thanks very much for any info or advice.

The 12 volt wire in the plug should be the trailer charge wire. Get a testlight or meter, and see if it has 12 volts with the key on, and no voltage with the key off. If this works, then it is the trailer charge wire, and you can use it to charge your winch battery, and run a few other things on the trailer. It usually is only good for about 20-30 amps though, so don't over do it.
For your lights and switches, I would run a inline fuse off the battery +, and put a 30 amp fuse in it. Then run a 10 gauge wire from the fuse all the way in the cab, and feed all your under dash switches. Then run a wire off each switch to a smaller inline fuse(probably 10 amps or so) and then run off each inline fuse with a wire going out of the cab, running along the frame to the rear. Bundle and tie these wires up, and then you can separate them at the rear and feed the aux lights on the truck, and any other lighting or loads you have.

Thanks guys.
I picked it up today. Looks like it has some shorts in the wiring, I have one light here, one light there.
I need to sort it out.
I'll work on the winch soon enough, but I have to have working stop, turn, tail and brakes for state inspection.
I may post up if I get lost.
Thanks
