Ceramic brake pads

The pads on my 03 Edge are starting to go, so I looked up the price for new pads while I was at work today and the only ones we keep in stock are a ceramic pad. Ford doesn't ship them from the factory with ceramics on em do they?

Is anybody else running ceramics on their ranger? I've heard that if you don't use the right rotors they throw off huge amounts of dust, since I'm a bit OCD about my wheels I'm not sure I'd like that to much.

One of the advantages o ceramix pads is they dust very little as they are so hard. They last a long time, but are hard on the rotors. jd

I put a set of AdaptiveOne ceramics on the front of my truck about 2 months ago. I've had no problems with noise and noticed significantly less dust on the wheels compared to the previous pads that were on there. And it might be my imagination, but I feel like they stop the truck faster too.

I have ceramics on my ranger all the way around, did nto notice a difference on stopping, but dust is all but eliminated.

I have ceramics on my Expy, and stopping power was definitly better with them, I wont use anything else anymore.

I run ceramics on my Aerostar. They work great and give plenty of stopping power. However, I have cheaper rotors, so the shop that installed the brakes cut a groove about midway around the face, and that apparently helps cool the rotor a little bit better and gives the heated gases somewhere to go, which prevents brake fadeout. It should help the rotor last longer, and so far they have held up very well. When the rotors die, I will replace them with better ones.

with the cost of rotors now and days, i just buy the cheap ones and replace them each time. We run ceramic pads on all of our farm trucks and they last twice as long as the cheap pads. Rotors for our f250 were like 28 for each. thats cheap. its 12 to turn, i save time and fuel and just replace them

I agree with fordboy on the rotors...for my truck they are also around $30 a piece and I just replace them while i have the calipers off... Even with the new pads and rotors, you're still saving a ton of money doing the brakes yourself anyway. Same thing would probably run $500 at the shop

better yet, I will buy a new set. Then have the old ones turned. So you always have a good set laying around and dont have to drive to the store and wait on them to get turned. I HATE having to wait on that stuff to get turned.
