99 f250 light duty question

Hey everyone I just purchased a 99 f250 light duty truck. 5.4 2x4 auto trans

can someone give me some specs on this truck. I did some searches and I saw people post weights ranging from 6600 - 7100 lbs. This truck doesnt look any different than the 2002 f150 which I drove in to go see it. So I cant see it weighing 6600 lbs. The tag said the gvr was something like 6900 lbs. So how can the bare truck weigh 6900 ???? isnt the gvr supposed to be the max weight of the truck after being loaded????I did the VIN conversion online and it said the gvr should be 6001-7000 lbs

also do you know what the tow rating of the truck would be. Yeah I know I need the axle code but I cant get to the truck just this second. if you could give me a range that would be great. I bought this truck to pull my boat so dont need a whole lot.

Also is there any frame difference in this truck as compaired to a regular f150. I understand the axles and springs etc are beefed up but how about the frame. I could not see any difference however I may not be able to tell by a first glance.

last question? The engine in this truck is shot. Someone put water in the radiator after the heater core leaked it out and over the winter the block cracked. It does run but the oil is a milkshake. What year engines can I choose from to go back in this truck. I keep hearing about certain year 5.4s being better than others. However I also hear that only certain years will work with the computer which is in the truck now. An ideas

anyway I only gave $950 for the truck. Its a pretty basic truck with no power options but a rust and wreck free body. I figure I can drop in a junk yard engine and use it to tow my boat.

Good deal for only $950. The 5.4 is a great engine. I would like you said, just go for a similar "vintage" engine and drop it in and go fishing!!

Towing capacity for a 5.4 is about 7,000 lbs. My 97 F-250 with 5.4 and 3.73 rear end was towing my 7,000 lb boat fairly easy, but I probably wouldn't push it more than that.

I did some homework for you- check out this sight

1999 Ford F-250 specs, auto safety at Edmunds

not a whole lot of info out there on this "rare" breed.

hahaha edmunds has the towing capacity at 10,000 HAHAHAHA

I got on some website which deals in trailers. I think it was something like trailerlife.com or something like that. They had a great breakdown of all truck towing capacity from 1999 tuntil 2008. They had my truck rated to pull 7200 with 3.31's and 8700 with 3.73's. I have to check the tag to see which gear ratio i have. either way im covered.

Im still confused as to what engine I can put in thistruck. I keep hearing that only certain years are compatable with my trucks wiring and computer. I would like to find a motor with as few miles as possible but that means a newer motor. If a newer motor will not work im stuck with an older pre 99 motor.

either way I need to figure out whatmotor will be a bolt in swap. I dont want to get into modifying computers or wireing.
