For anyone that dismisses new country; check out Jamey Johsnon. I read this whole thread and was saddened to see he wasn't mentioned once :/ He's the one who wrote Honkey Tonk Baddonkadonk. I like Trace Adkins; but he doesn't hold a candle to Jamey Johnson.

And for those saying they were around when classic country came out but are 16...do you mean classic as in outlaw country (ie; Hank Jr?) Or classic as in Hank Sr. / Loretta Lynn / Faron Young / Roger Miller? Because I don't think you were alive back then :P

For me it's all about the outlaw country though, Jamey Johnson / Travis Tritt for newer stuff, Hank Jr. / Waylon / DAC / J.C. / Willie for the original outlaw country

Jamey doesn't have much different of a voice than other deep-voiced country singers, such as Trace Adkins. But he is no doubt an incredible artist. He will have a successful career.

Is is wrong to like what came before us? How many teenagers listen to 70s & 80s rock? Hell, I have caught myself listening to 40s big band and swing.

Nothing wrong with that at all; that wasn't my point. I was just finding the thought of music that came out in the last 10 years (ie; 16 year olds being alive when classic country came out) a bit amusing. I don't usually tell people what they should of shouldn't listen to. Though I do strongly question people who listen to 'gangsta rap', yet are middle to upper class suburban home dwellers. But that's a whole other issue

And I think Jamey is more than just his voice. It's the type of music he writes. Listen to every song on his two albums and tell me that's not the case
