Turn signal not cancelling

I have a 69 F100 and the turn signals work but do not cancel after turning. I took off the steering wheel. I see the white plastic cam that is on top of the turn signal switch. It doesn't appear that anything is broken off of the cam. On the back side of the steering wheel is a metal piece that looks like it might hit the cam to cancel the turn signal but I don't know. It looks like there should be another piece that would hit the cam and make it cancel. In looking at the steering diagram I can't see where there is an extra part.

That's the turn signal cancelling cam you see on the back side of the wheel. it's a press fit. That's it, there isn't anything else..it's gotta be in the switch.

When did the problem first start? Recently, or has it always been that-a-way? Did you replace the switch recently?

There are two different turn signal switches used on 1969 F100/350's. Both are still available from Ford, but to get the correct one, post the last 6 digits of your VIN. It's possible you have the wrong switch on your truck.

The switch has a paper tag with an ID number on it, that's looped around the harness. If you find it, post what the ID number is along with those 6 digits.

Look where the T/S handle screws into the switch, is it broken there? Try wiggling the handle, see what happens. If the handle sags, the switch is broken internally.

I purchased this truck last fall and the signals were not cancelling at that time. The last 6 numbers of my vin are F76350.

I'll take the switch off this weekend and see if I can find a tag number. And I will see if the the T/S is loose.

When I got the horn didn't work. When I went to fix that there were parts missing from the horn ring assembly so maybe they did put the wrong switch in and in doing so lost parts to the horn. We'll see....

Another thought occured to me. Maybe the cancelling cam on the back of the steering wheel is not hitting the plastic cam. Perhaps the steering wheel is positioned incorrectly?

I took the steering wheel off today and looked again at my set up. Nothing appears to broken from the plastic cam. But I noticed that the little **** on the metal cancelling cam does not align inside the half circle of the plastic cam and thus does not trip the cam. The metal **** actually misses the plastic cam when the wheel is turned. Why would this be?

I suspect that the plastic nubs have broken off of the turn sig switch.
Is there a space between the steering wheel and the collar on the column?

Your steering column needs adjustment from sagging cab pucks or mounts.

Undo the mount at the firewall (the strap with single pinch bolt). Then the two bolts on the dash and set the gap between the steering wheel and column at 1/16th inch. .060

It misses the switch if it is more than spec.

Try this first before spending any money as its free....

My 69 Crew had the same issue... PO installed new switch and still could not get them to cancel....Simple adjustment of the collumn and horn works and signals self cancel.
