I have seen on Horsepower TV that in removing the Modular V-8 from a Mustang, it comes out the botton. We are taking one out of the 1997 Town Car. Does this also come out the bottom? What is the recommended way out?
Thanks for any help.
Also--a follow-up question. A salvage yard has a 4.6L from a 97 Thunderbird that he says is a direct exchange for the 97 Town Car 4.6L. Should we expect that to be correct?
Thanks for the tip,Galaxie641. I didn't know of the Crownvic site.
I went there to register so I could do a search, and in the registration was told that my email address was banned from the site. How does that happen?

The exhaust manifolds are diferent, the fuel rails might be different, and the upper inlet elbow for the throttle body is different. Other than that-they're the same engine.

The engine will come out from top or bottom of the Mustang-I've pulled them from the top-it's not a big issue at all. Crown Vic should be easier from up top-the engine bay is monstrous on those big cars.

Thanks, Johnny. I think we'll take it out the top, probably with the tranny still on. And then we should re-use the exhaust manifolds, fuel rail, and throttle body from the original Towncar engine, eh?
It might be a week or so. We have a few things going on at once. I'll post back.
Again--Thanks to all of you.

That pretty much sums it up. You'll need to changeover all of the Crown Vic specific pieces to the engine, and then drop it back in. The dipstick tube and the EGR tube are probably also different.
