Thanks!

They are the cheap ones best bet is to switch them out to some Bilsteins

Bad ones. (message was too short.) Therefore, the answer to the question, imho, the only type Ranch shocks that come with the F x 4 package are bad shocks that will wear out in 10,000 miles or less and give you the death wobble.

It's commonly believed that they are not actually Rancho shocks, but just Ford OEM painted to look like Rancho. Ford says the are "Rancho Branded". They are often the first thing to hit the scrap pile.

If you wanted to buy the closest thing, from Rancho, I think it would be the RS5000 model. But those are really too light for the Superduty trucks. Look at the 9000 line if you want Rancho. Look at Bilstein if you want to upgrade.

I replaced mine the other day and you can clearly see Motorcraft stamped in the shock.

You have different shocks Keith. Right? The FX4 package has different shocks than on your XL truck. They may all say Motorcraft for all I know, but just noting the difference.

They most likley are Rancho shocks, which Ford gave the contract to, and said build us a ****load of these per our specs for our SD'S. Hince the Motorcraft stamping. At any rate they are cheap, not a fan of the Rancho shocks anyhow, a monotue is a much better design imo. Do a search on here for Bilsteins and see what the vast majority have to say.

My bad. My XL is a 2004 with the FX4 package option. The package consisted of white Rancho stickered shocks that have the red plastic boot and, I think, skid plates.

I had forgotten they actually now had an FX4 model among the XL,XLT,Lariat, and others.

Probably my bad. I didn't think you could get the FX4 package on an XL, so I made a bad assumption. I've been wrong before.

My 2005 F-350 King Ranch had the F x 4 package. I see now the 2008's, well KR, F-350 you cannot get the F x 4 package. I think the F x 4 package is one of those things that Ford changes to guys and gals like us guessing. Impossible to keep up with the changes. Whoever wanted this info should do their own digging. Sorry for the double post but the computer made me do it, as I could not delete this post.

My 2005 F-350 KR had the F x 4 package. I could not get the F x 4 package when shopping for my 2008 KR (job 2). I now understand you can order a KR F - 350 with the F x 4 package. Too complicated for me. And it doesn't mean that much. Just a way for Ford to keep us guessing!

The FX4 is a way to grift money by putting on cheap skid plates and stocks with cool stickers on them........ my shocks have 17k on them and are already close to shot. But that might be where I drive, can't be sure.
