Ford buyers are probably waiting for the 2009 F150s and that may be playing a role in the drop in sales numbers we are seeing. Right now the tundra is the must have truck because it is the new kid on the block with some high power numbers. Fords new F150 will cut into that, the larger ford engines that are on the horizon will cut some more into that.
Toyota on the other hand is claiming to have an powertrain that is 400Hp and 20 MPG on the horizon. One month of sales numbers are not a real measure of what is to come. Both these heavy weights are clearly trying to bide their time by releasing the all new platforms and later the more advanced engines, so I guess right now its ford's move.........

F-150 were down. However, Toyota Division Tundra full-size pickup posted best-ever March sales of 14,311, an increase of 16.8 percent over last March.
Don't really understand this because the Tundra extended I looked at was $41K+. Very nice truck indeed but also very expensive. And this isn't their highest priced Tundra. The crew is. There was a $3K rebate however but Ford was offering similar cash back. WHY the Tundra is selling so well under these adverse conditions is a mystery to me. Great truck for sure, but that great?
All the top of the line trucks are very close in price.....and Ford very rarely gives rebates on Harleys or King Ranches...
Drive 'em both and and you'll understand why people pick the Tundra.
Ford sold what....5 times as many trucks last year? or somewhere close to that......theres 2 times (almost exactly) more 2007 F-150's than tundras......somehow percentage wise more people keep their fords than their toyotas...
Prove it.........
I've never seen a breakdown on the sales of F-150's, F250's, F350's, F450's, F-550's, F-650's.
Ford sold almost 5X's as many "F-series" as the 1/2 ton Tundra. (which sold 200,000 BTW)
Of the 750,XXX F-series, I doubt 400,000 of them were 150's.
(Aren't these threads supposed to be in Ford vs. Comp?)
I doubt they'd be that close....drive around town....there aren't that many toys here.....drive through the walmart or the grocery store parking lot and you might find one tundra....you'll find 20 f-150s though....
LMAO.....more Fords at Walmart!!!
Says everything we need to know.
(Aren't these threads supposed to be in Ford vs Comp??)
I'm guessing that Toyo will draw a few fledgling truck buyers that aren't rooted in a brand as of yet, but, I believe that they will primarily sell to Toyo loyalists.
Tim
Not true, the 1st Gen. Tundra did not sell very well........the "loyalists" did not buy it just because it was a Toy.
And while I hate using your logic against you, the reason the F-150 still sells as well as it does is because of the blind loyalists and huge incentives.
(Aren't these threads supposed to be in Ford vs comp?)
There's one point being missed here trying to compare the F-150 to the Tundra. Toyota does NOT make a 4WD nor a V-8 with the regular cab model. Many sales are being LOST as a result to Ford/GM/Chrysler becasue of this lack-there-of.
Where did you hear that???
Toyota offers the 5.7 and 4WD across the board.....in fact, the RCSB Tundra with 5.7 comes very close to Lightning times in the 1/4 mile WITHOUT a blower!!!
Because there are some people who don't really need a truck....who think toyota is amazing with whatever they build. Its the same reason people buy dodge minivans even though they're junk....because they believe that dodge is the minivan king.....are there better options?,,,,yes....do people still buy them?....yes....search ebay...theres an awful lot of them with 100-5000 miles on them for sale....
I found 11 NEW Tundra ads on e-bay.......actually 8 or 9 because of duplicate ads.........they were all from dealers.
Remember when you stated the Super Duty had a 5 star crash rating???
(when they don't even rate the Super Duty)
Now we get the sales figures out of thin air.
Now the e-bay statement.
Is it a Mod thang that facts do not have to be verified???
(I'll take your word on the all important Walmart litmus test to prove Ford's dominance....)
[aren't these posts supposed to be in Ford vs Comp??]
wow...if thats really the case we've got it good only not having a manual tranny available....no 4wd or v8 in a regular cab......toyota is pretty lame with that one...
Holy Crap, 7 posts in a row touting Toyota's superiority.
That's gotta be a record, even for You!
Show ONE post that was touting any superiority. (there were 8 posts BTW)
All replies were to erroneous or weird comments.........
Still cannot get over the Walmart parking lot being a barometer for Fords...
I will give you credit, however, for not bringing up how 1/2 tons need to be 1,500 punds lighter and get better MPG for the 526th time.
[shouldn't this thread be in Ford vs Comp??? I honestly don't understand how a mod not only allowed the comparisons in the '09 F-150 threads, but he actually contributed to it]
The only engine available with the regular cab is the 4.0L V6. The V8's are only available in the double cab and the crew max Tundras. Also, the regular cabs only come with a 4x2 transmission, not the 4x4.
The regular cabs were designed to be just a straight forward truck...mainly for fleet and work purposes. That's why Toyota doesn't offer a lot of options for it. The double cab is the real template Toyota envisioned for the truck. Everything they designed and came up with for the truck was based off of that size vehicle. It's easier going up to the crew max to add options, naturally. But stepping down to a regular cab limits what Toyota can offer just because of size.
Drive 'em both and and you'll understand why people pick the Tundra.
I did....and then I bought a ford....as did almost everyone else on this site..which also begs the question....why are you still here? Isn't there a toytota enthusiasts site?
