STGs D60 Tech Thread 4 - D44 vs D60 with pics pics

Its seems every day someone asks "why cant I successfully run 38"+ tires on a D44. We do our best to answer these questions but usually it ends up with the original poster telling a story of his brothers cousins grandmas yard boy running 44" boggers on a D44. Maybe a slap in the face with pictures will "teach" people exactly why.

From several sources I have found that the lowest end Yukon 4340 front shafts and spicer u joints together run in the $500 range. The highest end Superior 4340 shafts and CTM joints will run in the $1200 per set range. For $1000 you can find a D60 some more some less but $1000 is a good adverage. Considering gears lockers and rebuild kits are basically the same price You'd be crazy to spend $1200 for the best shafts that just barely keep up with a stock neck down 60.

Maybe these pics will explain better than I can. Numbers...torque loads...axle diameters....spline count all seem to be meaningless to the brainless amoeba who are unwilling to change and continue to break axles.

Carrier and ring gear

Yokes

U joints

Stubs

This is all factory stuff against factory stuff. Imagine an upgraded 35sp 60 vs a wimpy 19sp D44? I wish I had a pic of that but look how much bigger the 30sp D60 stub is than the 19sp 44. Now look at how much bigger the 35sp D60 shaft is than a 30sp D60.

Hopefully these pics will sway your decision but if not this WILL happen to you!

Have a nice day

Pics never lie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its almost like comparing the 2inch 47 spline Overson shafts to the stock 16 spline rockwell shafts.

Come on man. Youve never heard of the Hatfields and McCoys? They lived next door to each other and the Mason-Dixon line divided their two houses. They continued to fight after the Civil war was over and in the end they forgot why they faught in the first place.

Cant fight over swampers and boggers....I know boggers are better.
