From what I've read here, Dynamat seems to be the gold standard...However, in a recent thread on this, people were exploring cheaper alternatives. Someone recommended some stuff they got at Home Depot.

Being the frugal bugger that I am, I was recently in Home Depot and found this stuff that is basically bubble wrap with aluminum foil on both sides of it. It's meant for sound and heat insillation(sp?). I will likely use it. It's not that cheap , although I'm sure it's cheaper than Dynamat (and I won't have to pay any freight)....just gotta figure out how to attach it.....(spray adhesive I guess).

In a recent thread, it was recommended using a product called "Peel and Seal" It is an asphalt based product I think, that is sold by Lowe's. It is self adhesive and comes in a 6" X 25' roll. One of the members has used it successully under the headliner and inside the doors among other places. Don't know how it will stand the test of time but it looks like it would work well. I am going to try it on my '50.

Later,
Use a good 3M spray adhesive spray on the mating surfaces, allow to set up 2-5 minutes and then apply the insulation. Only issue I see is on the floor boards when the bubble wrap pops. I would use the bubble insulation every where else but use a different product for the floor only.

Dynamat is probably the best. It insulates sound and heat so well, it will take the old truck feeling out of the cab, and make it sound like you're in a cadillac or something. It can be very expensive, depending on where you get it from. Oh yeah, you still coming up in a few weeks? I'll e-mail you pretty soon.

Frost King is what I used on my 55 from HD. It is made for insulating hot water heaters and comes in a roll.

Dynamat Extreme. Even with out a finished interior in my 56 at highway speed (70 MPH +) you can hear the radio and talk to your passenger. Cost was over $400.00 but worth every cent.

Gusso,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I couldn't remember the name of the stuff so I had to swing by Home Depot on the way home from work tonight to check it.

It's called "Reflectix". I won't give you pricing cause CDN pricing is always higher than US, but the largest roll is 4 ft x 50 ft. It also come in packages about 1/4 that area and even smaller.

Says it reflects 97% of radiant heat and looks like it has an R factor of about 7.

Kusto,

Yah, I wouldn't use on the floor for fear of popping the bubbles but thanks for the tips on gluing it.

I'd like to check out that Peel and Stick but we don't have Lowes up here (yet). Apparently next year....

BTW - There's a very lengthy thread on this very subject over on HAMB right now.....

Gary,

No problem at all. Like I would mind another opportunity to poke around in a hardware/lumber store....
