Though I have not served, my fiance and the love of my life was a combat medic in Iraq. I've been heavily involved in learning the ropes of the VA, and have began writing for a war trauma site. If you know someone, or yourself are having issues adjusting to life back here in the states, shoot me a PM and I'll give you the URL to site. Family and friends are welcome as we're all in this together.
Tiny terror, If you want people to PM you, you should go into your options and enable PMs, as there is no option to send you one, right now.

Oh dang, I don't think I can. That must be a perk here. Sorry.
Got to have a minimum of 25 posts and then give the server time to figure out you've made that many posts. Think of a few more things to say, then give it a few hours. You should see the PM option in your user control panel then.
I don't want to off topic up your thread, but I'll get there... and I'll take any opportunity to talk up support for our troops and our vets. Had my eyes opened about two years ago. It was life changing.
Tiny Terror, you are right on for this thread. It is a military area and this is great you have some great info for certain members. Keep it coming! PS welcome to the group and FTE

Hey Tiny, welcome to FTE!! So far I haven't seen anything life changing out here except for the overly obvious fact that the majority of Iraqis love to throw trash anywhere.... I think the biggest thing I'll have to adjust to (like last time) is driving down the I-5 from Pendleton to San Juan Capistrano every day, now that'll scare ya if you aint used to it LOL!! Where in SoCal are you guys?

Have you guys seen (I would read the whole thread but... my span of attention would wane and I'd still not catch it if you did) Mil-Spec Monkey? Chris and I just ordered a bunch of patches for a buddy of ours who's walking the sand. My favorite one is the "Your mom sends me carepackages" patch. They match the uniform perfectly and provide a little boost.

Life changing for me was meeting Chris and finally realizing what you guys went and are going through. We civilians go on about our lives after we figure out declaring war only changes the lives of those attached to the military. We watch the news for a while, send carepackages, and fly our flags, then we forget. It's a bad thing.
Oh man, the 5. We don't have to do the 5. We're in Temecula and the closest we come to the 5 is when we drive under it to hit the beach in Oceanside. That's where we hide. Plus, my daily driver is a jeep wrangler decked out for offroading... it's scary on the 5 when everyone is zooming by you giving you the finger because you just hit 55 after 20 minutes.
Chris told me some of the fun stories.... I think the camel spiders would scar me for life. Bugs shall not be large enough to make a meal. Pretty sure that's in the rules.
LOL, yeah camel spiders can definitely shock you when you least expect them. One time, when I was putting up some T-walls (big concrete barriers) we have to move a big concrete pipe outta the way first. When the tram picked it up, man there musta been about 20 rats and 10 lizards come running out from under that damn thing. It was kinda fun, givin' rats the old heel stomp LOL. A few even took refuge under the tram tire. 26,000 lbs will flatten a rat really nicely...

T-Walls are big, upside down, concrete "T" shaped barriers, varying in height I saw 6 foot, and some probably 10 foot or more.

T- walls are similar to the ones used here in the states for road construction barriers only on a larger scale.
