You are a senior NCO, you should know that those requests make entirely too much sense to actually be followed through with.

All I can say is that the only acceptable term for them in our squad was the ****ing Air Force.

I even have a cousin in the ****ing Air Force, He gets hell for it but at least he knows he is a ***** and takes it like a man (well, as much as possible)

Did you happen to notice my avatar in a previous post? While I'll admit there are probably a lot of flyboys that have it better than the guys on the ground, I can tell you that unless things have drastically changed, it's not all fun & sun for the "****ing Air Force". There's been many a guy on the ground that's more than once been happy to see a couple of A10s roll in over their heads. I don't diss the Marines by calling them jarheads, or the Navy swab jockies, nor the Army cannon fodder. (Not seriously, anyway). They have a job to do, and they do it well, just like any other branch. I take my hat off to anyone who has served, no matter what color the uniform.

OK, before this gets out of hand, please dont take it like I think you might have.

the Air Force was responsible for keeping our coms with close air support and saved our asses. For the most part, I have never met anyone (personally) that ever gets seriously into the branch wars. ****ing Air Force is a term of endearment, and the air guys that were in our AO used it just like we did. Granted, it was a lot funnier hearing it come from them. Everyone picked their service and have no right to seriously bash the others. We call them the ****ing Air Force, they call us IED kickers. (my personal fav)

Its all in good fun, even if my cousin stays in a hotel on the international zone while I am out on a FOB. All pieces of the machine.

OOPS, didn't mean to come across as harsh......apologies if I appeared to.

Anyway, the tip of the hat applies to you as well as every other GI...I am proud of our men and women in uniform and don't mind letting any and all know it.

alchymist, don't apologize! Anyone that throws up the SAC badge knows where the rubber hits the road. Too much bitching about the AF and how good they have it. BS. You made your bed, sleep in it.

That's funny guys! When I was a bubblehead (submarine sailor) we used to get into it with the P-3 guys as they are the sub hunters.

The only thing I could to shut them up is "there are more P-3's in the ocean than submarines int he air". It's profound as hell but very true.

As a Coastie, I was always reffered to as a brown water sailor, puddle jumper, etc. It's all good and it's all in support of the same US Flag.

No offense intended, but I was told that there are only two components to the Navy- submarines and targets.

I was taught to believe that way as well. The first gulf war brought that theory to fruition.

By then I had already left the Navy and was in the Coast Guard fighting the war on drugs, re-patriating alien migrants to thier home lands and enforcing fisheries and other maritime laws. I absolutely loved every day of it.

I could see me liking the coast guard, but they have yet to start up the North Dakota group yet. Now I play the waiting game...

In this model - the money runs out just about when the commissary and PX are going up, and then they ask for an appropriation to build housing, rec facilities, and all the rest.
(IE: Non mission critical development)

The Air Force builds housing, rec fac's, clubs, and so on as priority one (including the local AF College) and generally runs out of budgetted funds in the middle of bulldozing the first runway.....

Guess who gets a higher priority for additional funding?

It's FLAWLESS!
I got the perfect solution to that crap- when they request more money because they blatantly missapropriated (yeah I said it) the initial funds, they can sell off some of the MWR assets to buy big balloon tires for thier F-16's, so they can take off from thier yet to be built GRASS runways!! Good luck retracting them tires

Actually - when (i don't know if it is anymore) Miramar had the base open to civilian traffic, they made a ton of money with their GOLF COURSE

Green fees being what they are, you know they made a pile there...

WALMART _ Source of inspiration!

Yeah, I know, sounds weird....

The Walmart in Lewistown, PA, has, like any other Walmart, greeters at the front door. However, this Walmart has some special ones. Several weeks ago I went in and noticed the greeter had a hat on with the Navy symbol and a ship's name on it. (Can't remember the name, suffer from CRS). Anyway, asked him if he were on it, and discovered he was a WWII vet who had served on that ship. Had a pretty good conversation with him.

Several weeks later, another greeter had a hat with Army Sgt. stripes pin on his hat, along with several other insignia. Again I asked, this one was a 7th Airborne vet. Another good conversation. He had a friend there who had also served, so we got a two for one that time.

In both cases both my wife and I thanked them for their service, and it actually was a rather emotional moment. Most people just pass them by without a second thought, and we owe them so much. And these guys really appreciate the little recognition they get.......heroes all.

A Veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount of “up to and including my life.”

JimG1098 is starting off with a positive reputation.
Went on an estimate the other day in Ocen Pines, Berlin, MD

He was an elderly gent wearing a WWII hat. We engaged in a conversation and after the estimate, he took me in to his den. He had served on a B-24. There were pictures of him and his crew mates, lots of pictures of the planes and numerous articles. There was one article about himself, his son and grand daughter, with pictures of thire planes. All three had at one time or another, been pilots or served on an aircraft crew. Talk about a piece of history. This gent was such a gentlman. I was proud to have met him and thanked him for his service.
