is it a real FX4

There isn't anything in the VIN that will tell you for sure, but a dealer could look up the VIN and tell you.
A pretty good indication would be the presence of all of the following: axle code B6 (3.73 w/limited slip) on the tag on the door frame, dash looks like carbon fiber, bumpers are body color (if single color paint) or dark shadow gray (if 2-tone paint), black wheel flares, black bed rail covers, the FX4 18" wheels, FX4 stickers on the side of the bed, FX4 emblem in the instrument cluster, skid plates under the fuel tank and the transfer case, factory receiver hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin trailer connectors, and extra large tranny cooler. There is probably more I'm forgetting, but if it has all of that, it probably is the real thing.

biggest and hardest thing to fake is the instrument cluster. you can order everything else, but this 1 thing can cost serious bucks to fake
look for the cluster to say FX4 in the center, and towards the bottoms. Lariats, XLT have their own badges in this place
otherwise, what Bill06FX4 said
