Thumbs up Hood Helping Hands...

Finally decided to pick something on the truck and get started. I was suprized to see that my kids were eager to jump in and help. First up was the hood...I made my wife take some pictures...it may be a one time deal and I wanted it documented. These are 3 of my 6, they kind of dwindled as the day went on...

but one little guy kept at it until the sun went down...

Hood is pretty much down to bare metal now. I just have a few small dings to knock and smooth out before primering the hood.

Good looking "family" project you've got going there Yep, you better enjoy their help now, later they don't even want to be seen around the Ol' Man.

Thanks! Moments like this were one of the main reasons I wanted this project. I hope we can keep the progress going until we see the road!
By then gas will likely be $10 a gallon so it may be a short trip

reminds me of my son helping me sand, to bad i was sanded the frame on my 55 when he was sanding moms 04 Envoy! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Last time he helped me change the oil in my truck, im on the creeper half under the truck and ask him to hand me the oil filter wrench, no problem until he drops it on my crotch which than i bang my forhead on the frame, than some choice words that i had to explain later. I just love the days he helps. LOL

Almost the exact same thing happened to me... I was spot-blasting a panel on my Jeep, my 4-yr-old was watching. An hour later I was eating lunch and saw him and his buddy thru the window, rubbing sand on his mother's brand new Caravan. "We're fixing mommy's car just like daddy!"

Yeah, I have had my share of "unwanted" help as well on many a project. Gotta love em though!

Side question related to the hood...I don't plan on painting right away so what should I be putting on the bare metal to stop the rust from rearing it's ugly head? I was going to prime it, but what kind should I be using? I have a few cans of the zinc rich primer that says it stops rust but who knows? Once I have all the body parts sanded down I would likely spray a a final consistant coat of primer before actual paint...so what should I use as I go? Is the cheap stuff out of the question?
