There are a number of plastic clips that hold the door panel to the door. Get a stiff putty knife and carefully pry between the panel and door. Slowly go around the door, prying off the panel. Many times the plastic clips hold in there pretty tight so be careful not to break the holders on the back on the door panel. They make a tool I think to remove the panels, usually at auto stores like Napa and such. Just work slowly and not get in a hurry.

Take off the door handle inside as well. They also make a special tool like this one to remove the plastic clips. I'll tell ya right now if your clips are good and you pull on the door panel your going to bust the mounts off the backside of the door panel. It would be best to get the right tool.

My 77 had twisted metal style retainers with a foam cover? Just go VERY slow and you should be ok.

The location of the clips is over a thin plastic part of the door. It may be the thinest piece behind there. It will break the plastic where the clips need to be if you pry too quickly or pry from a location too far away from the clip. That is why we all caution you to be slow and get as close to the actual clip as possible before prying.

Good Luck!
