Cummins conversion

Has anyone done a Cummins conversion. To get the power I want, I will have to spend another 10-12 thousand $'s. Also, I have a 2002 7.3 PSD, so I also would have issues with my powered metal rods. I know the Ford would be "un-pure", just curious if anyone out there has done this.

I think I know someone LOL. Have 3 more in the shop getting cummins right now as well. You can give me a shout if you have any questions and I will try and get you lined out on what it takes.

I am getting things together right now to d the conversion. I am putting an 06 5.9 common rail in mine. I am looking forward to having the power needed to get this big wagon rolling down the road like it should.

That's great! I am very interested, but will probably wait a few thousand more miles, I have 88,000 on my 7.3 PSD, and will probably wait another 88,000 before I do. I have always been intrigued with the Cummins. You can build them up for half the cost you can build a PSD and have twice the power! Where are you getting your conversion done. Where did you find your '06 Cummins?

I got the motor from the classifieds on one of the diesel forums. I am doing the conversion at Dominator performance Diesel in Pocatello Idaho. I will be getting most of the stuff from destroked.com. I can't wait to get it done, it will probably be close to the end of the year before I get it finished because I need to save a little more, The motor was a big part of the cost of it but there is a lot more involved to save for like a trans rebuild and that type of stuff.

A member of this forum did this. I think his name is 7.3x. He swapped his 7.3 for a 5.9 cummins and also swapped a 05 fron and rear diff in their.

As much as I like this idea I think that the 7.3 is more than capable to get some power to the ground. Before you try this a thought would be to get a Dp tuner, 4 inch exhaust, 6637 intake and gauges and see if you like the improvement in power and that only cost you $1,000 instead of $10,000.

But the cummins engines make way more power then the 7.3's.

If you are simply looking for the most power possible then why stop at a cummins? you can make as much power as your wallet can manage. The motors Ford puts in the X have plenty of power to roll down the road at whatever speed you feel like. I can understand if you are looking at needing to replace the current motor for failure reasons, but I dont see why it would be worth the expense otherwise. Heck, I dont care, its not my money!!

I'm holding out for someone to come up with at PT-6 conversion!! Talk about turbo whistle I guess that would raise the money issue to a whole new level!!!

For me it is a hobby. I have an 05 dodge with the Cummins in it and I love it! I have played with that truck for almost 3 years now and I don't think the Cummins can be beat if you are looking for power, longevity, fuel economy, and very easy to modify and maintain. I have always loved the excursion so I got this high milage V10 for a reasonable price with the intention of putting a cummins in it. I think it will be the ultimate family rig, and when I jump in it after driving my truck it won't feel like such a dog.

still colecting the parts and pieces. I want to get everything ready before I tear it down so that I am back up and running in as short a time as possible. I think it will be the end of the year before the parts and money all come together. I do have the engine though so that is the biggest piece of the puzzle.

Not to mention the room you will have to work on it and also add twin turbo and all that good stuff! I think Ford built the truck around the PSD!
