Engine Wiring Harness

I'm heading to the car show / swap meet next weekend, Food Lion Auto Fair at Lowes Motor Speedway. For those of you that are close to Charlotte this is one cool event.
Anyway, I'm going to be looking for a computer and engine harness for my 1994 5.0. I'm building a 5.0 to replace my 4.9 in a 94 f150 2wd short bed, 5 speed.
Question: I know there is a difference between the SD and mass air computer and harness so I have to consider that. But will a Mustang 5.0 harness and computer work? I see these on e-bay listed for 88 to 93 Mustangs. Would these harness and computer work for me or do I need a 'truck and year' specific harness?

Thanks all

Craig

The mustang harness is not a great option.. the computer in the cars was in the passenger kick panel, so you would have to tear the harness apart and completely redo the layout.

You can modify the truck harness to mate with the mustang computer by adding the necessary wires for injectors, MAF sensor, etc., and moving a couple of other pins. It won't be a simple plug-n-play operation unless you find same year/model/engine/transmission computer and harness combination.

Mikey, I sent you a PM

Paul, Mikey and Eric,
The computer does not have to be from a standard trans for me to use it does it (I've got a m5od)?

If the engine harness is from an auto trans can I still use it?

5.8 harness and computer will work on the 5.0?

Thanks,

Craig

You can use either a manual or auto mustang computer since the tranny wan't computer controlled on these cars anyway. If you get a truck MAF computer for an auto you will have issues with it throwing codes for the trans, I can't say if it will work right.

Paul, does that also apply to a SD computer off of an auto tranny?

Yes, for any truck with an OD tranny after about 1990... which is when the E4OD was widely deployed. The computer for a V8 truck with a C6 would be fine however, these were very common in the late '80's and early '90's in the heavy duty trucks and vans.

Wow, so let me recap and tell me if I'm close,
For computers I can use;

Any mustang 5.0 computer
Truck computer (5.0 or 5.8) from a manual or an older model truck w/ a C6 auto.

Engine wiring harness:
Truck wiring harness only (5.0 or 5.8), no mustang (to short, etc)
If I got a harness from an auto (e4od), can I simply not use the leads for the tranny?

SD vs Mass
Get the harness to match the computer, right?

I just have to know my options when I start looking hard. Hopefully I can find a truck computer and wiring harness together for what I need, plug and play.

Thanks, I'd be totally lost on this without your all's help.

Craig

Looks good. Your best option is to find a mid '90's truck wiring harness and remove what you don't need.. which would be the tranny stuff for the most part. Ideally you want a MAF truck wiring harness and MAF mustang computer, but you could also get by with an SD truck harness and 5.0 truck computer. One note, the older SD trucks all had the TFI module on the distributor, so if you get this harness you'll want an older distributor as well.

Actually that's not totally true, the newer distributor can be modified to accept the TFI module.. that's what I did with my 5.8. The distributor has to be completely disassembled, the opening machined for the module, and the hall effect sensor installed inside with the correct exciter ring.

btw, massairsystems.com has a wiring harness for conversion to MAF. It'll run ya 400 bucks, but no guessing. convienence or time, whichever you want.
