I wouldn't do that... purely because of the drive line angles you would see on your joints with such a short shaft length if you are planning on having any form of articulation (which I am guessing you are - otherwise might as well leave the rear axle as a lazy axle)

I would suggest finding a Transfer Case with 2nd rear output - and running the rear driveshaft above the front rear axle.
Thats what they do on our Military 6x6 LR's here... works well.

It is supported by a carrier bearing/CV joint mounted on the frame above the front rear.

Oh, that makes sense. No problems with shaft angles on the rear tiny shaft after the carrier?

Not really, because the transfer case output that it uses on these vehicles is high up (uses the PTO output that was there for the powered gun trailers) providing a pretty straight shaft angle.

Coz I am a hard azz

Seriously though... most 6x6's suck. Not enough Axle articulation. I have a friend that supports the trucks in the Paris Dakar (he works for Tatra)
The 6x6 Tatra's and the Pinzgauers run a double off-set crown wheel and a jack shaft like the duece and a halfs run with their rocks... but it means you have to have the axles locked, and I think such an idea sucks to be honest.
Even the above way of doing it will never give you the articulation of a 4x4

Yeah, but if its just for a tow rig, you might as well do a lazy axle in my opinion... lot less work.
(such vehicles are common here... MULTI AXLE CONVERSIONS )

However, a 6x6 does look cool.
