info on a flash?

i read all the time on here where people are talking about getting their trucks flashed. not really sure what they are and are they something that my dealer can tell me if i need? what are the advantages and disadvantages to getting them done? do they cost me if under warranty? if so how much do they usually run? any help from you guys would be appreciated.
thanks.

Cost you about $120 if you are not experiencing any problems that would require the updates. If you have signs of injector "stiction", they would probably do it under warrantee (if you are not already out of the warrantee miles / date).

The flash is just the updating of your computer software - the engine control strategy, transmission strategy, etc. I HIGHLY recommend it. I believe I actually improved in mpg (about 0.5). If they are done correctly, I believe the days of losing mpg are over (IMHO).

50calmike is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.50calmike is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Advantages: You get the most recent updates available. Disadvantages: Cost. You pay the $100 deductable to get it done and others have claimed to have lost power or mpg. Dealer can tell you what flash you have or what is available.
